Mr. T. G. Harries

Roch

Roch Church was filled with family and friends on September 23rd to pay respects to Thomas George (Rex) Harries, of Pilgrims Way, Roch.

Rex died suddenly at Withybush Hospital on September 17th, aged 80.

He was the son of Nora and Bertie Harries of Haverfordwest. His parents ran a local sweetshop/tobacconists known as Cozy Corner and also the Milford Arms public house. Rex married Mary in 1951 and they moved to Roch in 1960.

Rex worked at St Davids Airfield as a fireman, a supervisor at Leslie’s Stores in Milford Haven and also worked for various heating firms.

He worked at Brawdy and Trecwn, and retired from Kenyon’s Heating firm in 1992.

Rex’s main interests were cars and DIY, and he was an accomplished mechanic. He could turn his hand to most things and was willing to help anyone.

Rex particularly enjoyed following his grandson Callum’s go-karting experiences, and enjoyed a walk along Newgale Beach.

The family left to mourn are: Mary (wife); Vanessa and Andrew, Allison and Jock (daughters and sons-in-law); Mark and Helen (son and daughter-in-law); James, Claire, Laura, Callum, Sam, Charlotte and Luke (grandchildren); Margaret and Sonia (sisters) and their families, plus several nephews and nieces.

The funeral and interment took place at Roch Church on September 23rd, and was led by Rev Michael Rowlands.

The bearers were Andrew Hammond, Jock Colligan (sons-in-law); Neil Perry (nephew); Nicholas Hammond (friend); James Hammond and Callum Harries (grandsons).

There were family flowers only but donations for the chemotherapy day unit can be sent to Mrs. V. Hammond, 31 Woodlands Park, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest SA61 1LR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr H. Hartley

Milford Haven

The death occurred at the home of Harold Hartley, Wellington Road, Hakin, Milford Haven on September 13th. He was 75.

Originally from Liverpool, he had various jobs throughout his life including serving in the Royal Navy, Okells Ship Chandlers, a long distance lorry driver and a tugman.

His main interests were fishing, family life and also he was a chief petty officer in Milford Haven sea cadets from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s.

He was predeceased by his wife Joan Hartley in 1993.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Derek and Mandy Hartley, Philip and Diane Armstrong, Lynne Brown, Susan and Andy Massey, Janet and Phillip Jones (daughters and sons-in-law); Martin and Stephen Hartley, Andrew and Daniel Armstrong, Emma and Jonathan Hiscocks, James Brown, Nathan and Rhiannon Massey (grandchildren); Ryan Hartley, Holly Armstrong (great grandchildren); Sam and Joe Hartley and families (brothers); Sheila and family (sister-in-law); Anne, Alec and family, Dot, Ken and family, Jack and family, Joan and family (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law); Kelly Barratt (close family member).

The funeral service was held at Hamilton Court funeral home, Milford Haven followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The bearers were Derek Hartley, Philip Armstrong, Phillip Jones and Andy Massey.

Donations in lieu of flowers to RNLI c/o John Haughey, 12 Hayston Avenue, Hakin, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr. J. A. Jones

Milford Haven

The death occurred at home on September 9th of John Arvin Jones (Ringo), of Beach Hill, Milford Haven. He was 80.

A native of Bangor, he worked as a general nurse in Liverpool, then moved to Milford Haven and worked at the milk depot before having a job as a fire and security technician at Amoco Oil refinery, from where he retired.

He served six years with the Royal Horse Artillery and saw action in Egypt during the Suez crisis.

He was a skilled jazz drummer, playing in various local bands during the 1960s and 1970s.

He enjoyed model making especially wooden ships, and got great pleasure from walking his dog along the Rath.

He used to be an active member of Plaid Cymru political party.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Mrs Olwen Jones (wife); Anthony Jones, Conway Jones (sons); Tomas Lewis Jones (grandson); Anwen Kirby, Margaret Connely (sisters); Betty Francis (sister-in-law); Debbie Welham (future daughter-in-law); Justin and Sean (nephews); Betty (sister-in-law); Mai (cousin-in-law); Herbie Welham (daughter-in-law); Rachel Jones.

The funeral service was held in Hamilton Court funeral home followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were Anthony Jones, Conway Jones (sons), Justin Kirby and Sean Connely (nephews).

Donations in lieu of flowers for Milford Haven sea cadets can be made c/o Barclays Bank, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs. A. Davies

Haverfordwest (formerly of Milford Haven)

The death occurred peacefully at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home on September 23rd of Ann Davies, of Uzmaston, Haverfordwest and formerly of Robert Street, Milford Haven.

She was the wife of the late Lew Davies; mother of Ann, Rose and David; mother-in-law of John and Ken; nannie, great nan and great great nan and a friend to many.

The funeral took place on September 28th at Hamilton Court funeral home followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery. Rev Martyn Evans officiated.

There were family flowers only with donations for Canacer Research being sent to Mrs. Margaret Jones, 113 Waterloo Road, Hakin, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs. L. J. Palmer Pembroke The death occurred of Lesley J. Palmer, of Whitehall Avenue, Pembroke on September 10th after a short stay at South Pembrokeshire Hospital. She was 84.

Originally from Whitley Bay, Northumberland, she qualified as a nurse in 1949. She was in the Red Cross assigned to the Navy during the Second World War and was a ward sister at West Middlesex Hospital, Isleworth in the 1970s and early 1980s. When she retired in 1985 she was a senior allocation officer at the West Middlesex Hospital.

Her interests included being a cook and seamstress, watching old films, playing piano and she passed her grade six when she was in her seventies.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald S. Palmer in 2005.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Carol and Mark Sayers (daughter); Chris and Sandy Palmer (son); Trudie Potts and Mona Nicholson (sisters).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was led by Rev Hugh Michael. The bearers were Terry, Paul, Gavin and Stewart.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Macmillan Nurses, being sent to Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Sons, Pembroke Dock.

Mr J. Cox

Cresselly

The death occurred of John Cox at Withybush Hospital on August 31st. He resided at Well Park, Cresselly and was 82.

Originally from Birmingham, he was in the army and then became a plumber for the local council. He served his national service in Germany as a sergeant in the Royal Signal Corps.

His interests were Cresselly Cricket Club, Lawrenny Cricket Club and he loved wildlife especially the wild birds in his garden.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Lillian (wife); Debra Field (daughter); Douglas Field (son-in-law); Janet Odishow (daughter); Jerry Clarke (Janet’s partner); Lee and Jason Odishow, Michael Field and Richard Field (grandsons); Harold Lowe, Brenda Lowe, Marianne, Alan Smith, Gail Smith, Linda Rowe, John Rowe (nephews, nieces and great nieces).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was taken by David Goodwing. A personal tribute was given by Mrs Elizabeth Treharne and the bearers were Lee, Michael, Jason and Richard (grandsons).

There were family flowers only with donations if desired for the Chest Unit Fund at Withybush Hospital c/o E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

MR I. PIKE

New Hedges

The death of Ivor Pike occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 11th, on his 90th birthday.

Born in Cardiff, he grew up in Cathays, playing rugby for the local school and Cardiff Schoolboys and later played for Penarth. Trains became his trade and passion and during World War Two he played an important part transporting the troops around the country.

In the late 1940s he met his wife Joyce (nee Sherlock) from Pembroke Dock, and they were happily married for 58 years. Moving to Keynsham in the 60s, Ivor then worked in the motor trade and had his own business until he retired and they then moved to New Hedges. Ivor’s last passion was golf and he was a popular member at Tenby golf club and a keen member of the Chicken Trotters, winning the county seniors’ cup one year.

Left to mourn are his wife Joyce; Susan (daughter); John and Liz (son and daughter-in-law); Hannah and Sean (grandchildren); and Neve and Nathan (great grandchildren); plus other family and friends.

A large gathering attended the funeral service on September 17th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, which was led by Rev Roger Hart.

There were family flowers only with donations to the coronary care unit, Withybush Hospital, where Ivor spent a lot of time in his last years.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth SA67 8LT who is collecting the donations.

Mrs. A. D. Turner

Surrey (formerly of Amroth)

The funeral took place at Guildford Crematorium on September 16th of Ann Denise Turner (nee Cale), formerly of Amroth, following her death on September 5th at the age of 50.

She was the youngest daughter of David and Doreen Cale, of Amroth.

The chief mourners and family left to mourn are: Barry Turner (husband); Lisa, Tracy and Diana (daughters); Dominic, Chantelle and Paige (grandchildren); Peter Cale (brother); Carole Ralphs (niece); David and Chrissy Ralphs (great nephew and niece).

The bearers were Peter Cale (brother); Sean Ralphs (nephew); Paul Barton (son-in-law); and Andrew Collins (son-in-law).

Donations in lieu of flowers for a commemorative bench at Eastlake Nursing Home, where Ann worked for 16 years, may be sent to John Roberts and Sons, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
