Mrs E. N. M. Buckingham

Johnston

Elizabeth Norah Marea Buckingham, of The Close, Johnston, died on October 2nd at Withybush Hospital. She was 81.

During her life she worked at the Crown public house, Penally.

Family left to mourn are: William John Buckingham (husband); Marea Buckingham (daughter); Paul Buckingham (grandson); Lee Buckingham (grandson); Kelly Buckingham (granddaughter); Violet Evans (mother-in-law) and Marie Forest (sister-in-law).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans. Her ashes will be interred with her son, David Buckingham, who predeceased her in May 2008.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to ward ten, Withybush Hospital.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons.

Mrs M. E. Reynolds

Milford Haven

The death of Margaret Eileen Reynolds, of Richard John Road, Milford Haven, occurred at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, on October 8th. She was 81.

She was a native of Milford Haven and worked at Whicher and Jamesons in the accounts departments.

She retired from ITT Components factory, in Thornton, at the age of 60.

Margaret loved being around her home and family. She enjoyed her garden and loved watching sport on TV, especially tennis.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Frank Reynolds (husband); Francis, Freda and Ruby (sisters); Suzanne, Gus, Geoffrey, Joan, Janice, Tony, Trisha, Howard and Stephen (sons, daughters and partners); Scott, Claire, Louisa, Stuart, Adrian, Emma, Laura, Gareth, Kate, Daniel, Jamie, Darren, Christina, Jordan, Nia, Joseph (grandchildren); Ruby, Hannah, Evan, Mackenzie, Ellie, Niamh, Nathan and Nyla (great grandchildren), plus nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn, and the bearers were Adrian, Scott, Gareth, Daniel, Darren and Jamie.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the renal fund to Bob Bowen, Withybush Hospital.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr D. P. Steward

Hakin

Dennis Picton Steward, of Glebelands, Hakin, died at Withybush Hospital on October 2nd. He was 71.

A native of Hakin, he was a building labourer and also worked on oil refineries. Due to an accident resulting in limb amputation, he was forced to retire at the age of 55.

His interests included family, most sports, gardening, and he was also a member of the Royal British Legion.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Pam (wife); Kevin (stepson); Wendy (stepdaughter) and husband Robbie; Naomi and Alex (grandchildren); Eileen, Edie, Sylvie, Gwendoline (sisters); Gordon (brother); Reggie (brother-in-law), plus nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

The service was held at the Methodist Church in Milford Haven and was officiated by Rev Alan Jenkins. The bearers were Derek Bowen, Bobby Morgan, Alan Roach and Paul Owens.

Donations in lieu for ward seven, Withybush Hospital, can be made via HSBC Bank, account number 31499858 and sortcode 40-23-21.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr E. D. G. Cray

Pennar

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 29th of Elwyn David George Cray, of Cross Park, Pennar. He was 71.

Originally from Bentlass, he served his apprenticeship as a panel beater and welder with Arthur Jones, Lamphey Road Coachworks, Wellhill, Pembroke. He then worked at West End Motors and Central Garage for many years. He also worked for Chilton Motors, Pembroke Coachworks and Dragon Mechanical.

He enjoyed motorcycling and F1 racing.

Family left to mourn are: Ann (wife); Michael and Sharon, Paul and Susan (sons and daughters-in-law); John (grandson); Debra, Sophie, Holly (granddaughters); Jayden (great grandson); Tina, Kirsty, Kacy (step-grandchildren); Graham and Susan (brother and sister-in-law); Joyce and John, Audrey and Jim, Carol and Michael (sisters and brothers-in-law); Dorothy Mathias (mother-in-law); Gort (brother-in-law); Pauline and David (sister-in-law and brother-in-law), plus many nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.

The service was held at Bethel Baptist Chapel, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery. Rev Roger Hart officiated.

The bearers were Michael Cray (son); Mark Road (cousin); John Davies, Harry Davies, Christopher Harris, Jon Mathias (nephews).

There were family flowers only. Donations for Kidney Research may be sent to E. C. Thomas and Son, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6UR, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr L. Roach

Haverfordwest

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 30th of Lynne Roach, of Fishguard Road, Haverfordwest.

Lynne was a native of Prendergast, Haverford-west. Lynne and his wife Marilyn owned the old Withybush Hospital grocery shop. Lynne then worked for Pembrokeshire County Council, from where he retired.

His interests were his family, swimming, fitness, weightlifting, reading, supporting the local Parkinson’s Society and world wildlife organisations. He was a long-serving and loyal member of Hill Park Baptist Church.

Lynne’s passions in life were his family and sport.

As a teenager he spent eight months in the TB Hospital at Talgarth, Brecon. From that point he developed an interest in fitness and health.

He was head coach of Haverfordwest swimming club and was involved with the county swimming team.

Lynne was committed to the development of weightlifting in the county. He was the driving force of the Haverfordwest Weightlifting Club, which produced many national and international weightlifters. Over the years Lynne gained qualifications as a referee, which gave him the opportunity to become a senior coach for the Welsh Weightlifting Team. He coached the Welsh team in many international tournaments and in 1994 was a coach at the Commonwealth Games in Canada. Lynne was also an international referee.

After the onset of Parkinson’s disease, for 15 years he was inspirational in his battle against the effects of the disease.

Family left to mourn are: Miriel Roach (mother); Marilyn Roach (wife); Mark and Tina (son and daughter-in-law); Simon and Angela (son and partner); Niamh (granddaughter); Garnet (niece) and David (nephew).

The funeral was held at Prendergast cemetery, and was officiated by Rev Gareth Edwards. The bearers were Jonathan Roberts, Steven James, Stephen Donavan, Jonathan Davies and Neil Taylor.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Sons, Haverfordwest.

Mrs W. E. Grundy

Milford Haven

The death occurred on August 30th after a short illness at Withybush Hospital of Wilhelmina (Winnie) Grundy. She was 90.

For the last 18 years, Win resided at Nelson Avenue, Hakin.

The funeral service on September 4th was officiated by Rev Peter Jones and Rev Alan Chadwick, at St Mary’s Church, Hakin.

A tribute was read by Winnie’s granddaughter, Susan, and her younger daughter Eraine read one of the Bible readings. The church service was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

Winnie was born in Alkmaar, Holland. At the age of 18, Win trained as a psychiatric nurse. She furthered her nursing career by becoming a sister at the University Hospital in Utrecht. In late 1945, she travelled to Britain as a nursing escort for returning wounded British soldiers. Winnie decided to make Britain her home and took a post as a staff nurse in Liverpool.

She moved to Pembrokeshire in 1948 with her late husband Robert Grundy and lived the rest of her life in Milford Haven. During her life in the town she acted as the unofficial street nurse where she lived, tending the many bumps, bruises and cuts that local children sustained.

She was a well known aran knitter for Pettit’s wool shop, a junior school dinner lady and later she worked for 15 years as assistant matron at Havenhurst. Winnie was an active member of St Katherine’s Mothers’ Union.

Winnie leaves to mourn: Elizabeth and John Smedley, Eraine and Derek Kozel (daughters and sons-in-law). Robert and Alicia Grundy (son and daughter-in-law) Peter Grundy (son), her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The bearers were Robert and Peter (sons) and John and Derek (sons-in-law).

There family flowers only, with donations for the British Heart Foundation to Barclays Bank, Hamilton Terrace, Milford Haven.

Tom Newing and Sons, of Milford Haven, carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr A. T. Brown

Leominster (formerly of Neyland)

Allen Thomas Brown, who was born in July 1940, died on October 6th at Leominster Community Hospital. He was 69.

Allen was brought up in Neyland by his grandparents.

Allen leaves to mourn: his wife, four children, nine grandchildren and many friends.

The funeral took place on Monday, October 12th, at Hereford Crematorium and donations went to cancer research.

Mrs D. Cox

Johnston

The death occurred at home of Dora Cox, of Orchard Court, Johnston. She was 97.

She was the youngest of five. Her father was a hay merchant in Johnston and the family were active in village and chapel life.

In 1930, the family electrical business, Loosmores, started and Dora worked in the shop in Upper Market Street, Haverfordwest. During the war she worked in the mine depot in Milford Haven.

It was at this time that she met Donald. They married in 1946 and lived in Steynton Farm. They had two children, Edward and Ruth. Donald died in 1958 and Dora returned to Johnston.

Dora was a member of the WI, village development committee and the Sunshine Club. She was an active chapel member, Sunday school teacher and deacon. Her life was centred on her family, her faith and respect for others.

The funeral was held at Johnston Baptist Chapel on October 6th, followed by burial at Pope Hill cemetery. The service was attended by family, friends and those who cared for her, and was led by pastors Alan Ash-worth and Derek Trivette.

There were family flowers only. Donations for the children’s charity SmileTrain can be sent to Mr I. Evans, 19 Dunsany Park, Haverfordwest, SA61 1UD.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by F. G. Rees, of Portfield Gate.
