Mrs S. M. Oughton
Milford Haven
The death occurred at Rostley Care Home, Steynton on October 15th of Sylvia Oughton, of Vicary Street, Milford Haven. She was 73.
As a native of Milford Haven she worked for Pembrokeshire County Council as a cashier at Milford Haven town hall.
Her interests were her home and her family.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: John Oughton (husband); Jill and John Allum (daughter and son-in-law); Alan and Laura Oughton (son and daughter-in-law); Sarah-Jane, Victoria, Nathanial, Isobel, Beth and Lucy (grandchildren); Freda and Ian James (sister and brother-in-law); Carol and Philip (niece and nephew), together with brothers and sisters-in-laws too numerous to mention.
The funeral service was held at Rehoboth Church, Hakin followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.
The bearers were Barry and Malcolm Oughton, John Allum and Alan Oughton.
Donations in lieu of flowers for the Pembrokeshire Alzheimers Society can be sent to Suite 18, Cedar Court, Havens Head Business Park, Milford Haven SA73 3LS.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
Mr J. Carroll
Pembroke Dock
The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 28th of James Carroll, of St Andrews Road, Pembroke Dock. He was 82.
He spent his working life as a coxswain.
A native of Carrick Hill, Belfast, he moved to Pembroke Dock in 1951 with his late wife Bridie, who passed away last September almost 12 months to the day. He worked initially with his wife’s family firm, the McNally brothers, and then in the building of Pembroke Power Station. His final position was the Marine and Port Services from where he retired in 1989.
His main interests were his family and his beloved football for which he had great passion.
The funeral was held at St Marys RC Church, Pembroke Dock and was officiated by Fr. Patrick Fitzgerald-Lombard and tributes were given by his son Jerry Carroll and granddaughter Karen Butland.
The bearers were Matthew, John, Peter, Joe and Mikey Boswell, Richard Scourfield (grandsons).
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Ida and Stephen Jones, Teresa and Barry Pullin, Susan and Brian Scourfield, Mary and Ethell Boswell (daughters and sons-in-law); John and Mal Carroll, Jerry and Sally Carroll (sons and daughters-in-law); Margaret and Lizzie Plain (daughter and granddaughter, from Australia); Dan Carroll (brother from Belfast); 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces from Belfast; Eileen McNally (sister-in-law), plus numerous nieces and nephews and many other friends and neighbours.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Coronary Care Unit at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Pembroke Dock.
Mr J. H. Lewis
Haverfordwest
John Lewis died at Withybush Hospital on October 16th, aged 78, after a short illness. He leaves to mourn wife Jean, son John, daughter Christine and grandchildren, Carolyn, Alan and Heather. He was also father-in-law to Bridget and Howard, brother to Peter and David and brother-in-law to Pat and Helen.
John was born in Haverfordwest and attended the local grammar school and later trained as a teacher at Trinity College, Carmarthen.
Prior to teacher training he did his national service in the Royal Army Pay Corp, where he met and married Jean. They were happily married for nearly 60 years.
John had a successful teaching career in Milford Central and North Road Boys School. In 1972 he took up a lectureship at Bradford College where he remained until retiring in 1990.
He had wide and varied interests including hill walking, golf, tennis, snooker and football. His passion was football and in particular Manchester United, having held a season ticket at Old Trafford for many years.
John was also a keen golfer and he made many friends, in particular his golf partner Martin Smith who became a valued and close friend.
In 2006 John suffered a severe stroke, which he fought with courage and determination. Thanks to the selfless dedication of his wife Jean, he was able to lead a comparatively comfortable life.
He returned to his Pembrokeshire in 2007 to be closer to family.

Mr W. J. Harries
Freystrop
William John (Bill) Harries died at the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff, on October 4th. He was 85.
Born in Llangwm, he lived most of his life in Freystrop. He was in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and then became and electrical foreman for the Department of Environment, Trecwn.
He leaves to mourn his wife Hilda; daughter Elizabeth; grandchildren Hannah, Gareth, Joanne and her husband Chris; sisters Dorothy James and Kathleen Harries as well as many nephews and nieces.
The funeral took place on October 16th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The service was conducted by Rev Martin Evans, minister of Ebenezer Chapel and grandson Gareth gave a personal tribute to his grandfather.
The bearers were his great nephews Richard and Mark James, Matthew Ralph and Martin Davies.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Glyn Thomas and Son, assisted by Mrs Susan Price.
There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu being sent to Mrs Elaine Couzens, Granston Hall, Castle Morris, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire SA62 5UR, in aid of the Royal British Legion.
Mr S R. Pugh
Ffynnonlas Uchaf
Ray Pugh died on June 8th at home with her family. She was 62 and during a long battle with illness she was cared for by her husband Richard and the family.
Ray was born at Glandwr and attended the local primary school. She was one of the first pupils to attend Preseli School. She was employed at Boots Chemists, Carmarthen before returning to help her parents Sally and the late D. O. Lewis in Glandwr shop. She was predeceased by her brother Hugh and later her first husband Alun John died.
She later met and married Richard and moved with her son Roddy to the family farm at Pentregat. They farmed there for a number of years and this is where Rose was born. They then moved to farm at Ffynnonlas where their daughter Rhian was born.
Ray loved her home and family and was an excellent cook. She sold buns and cakes to local shops and also had a stall in Fishguard market, and was also a school dinner lady. She loved reading, writing poetry, walking and her garden.
After giving up farming Ray worked at the Travel Lodge, St Clears.
She served on a number of local committees including chairman of the governors of Glandwr and Hermon schools.
The funeral took place at Ffynnonlas and afterwards at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. Both services were conducted by Rev Roger Thomas of Crymych, assisted by Rev Emyr Lyn Evans, Carmarthen.
During the service at the crematorium Rose and Rhian gave readings. The bearers were Sam and Jake John, Emry and Aled Davies, John and Robert Pugh.
The principal mourners were: Richard (husband); Roddy and Diane (son and daughter-in-law); Rose, Rhian, Richard and Tim (daughters and partners); Sam and Jake (grandsons); Sally (mother); Mary and Wynne (sister and brother-in-law); Terry Pugh, Tom John (brothers-in-law) and Iris, Emyr and Ann-Marie, Aled and Cathy, John, Robert and Barbara, Rebecca, Mathew, Michael and Tom (nephews and niece), as well as cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Sarah, Gaerth and Suzanne (nieces) and Lellie Knight (aunty) were unable to attend.
The following day Ray’s ashes were interred at Glandwr Cemetery at a short service conducted by Rev Roger Thomas.
There were family flowers only.

Mr J. Williams
Login
John Williams, of Cilowen, Login, Whitland died on August 1st aged 78.
His roots were deeply set in his local community of Login, where farming played a central part in his life. He was a keen and active member of the Suffolk Sheep Society.
John was a real character of the countryside, and his well known humour, sayings and tales will be fondly remembered.
The attendance at John’s funeral was a testimony to his popularity and to the respect in which he was held by all.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Margaret; their children Beti, Siân, Dion and their families; his wider family and by numerous friends and neighbours.
The funeral service was held at Calfaria Chapel, Login on August 7th and was conducted by his minister Rev Eirian Wyn Lewis who was assisted by the Rev Huw George.
The bearers at the house were Andrew Eynon, Garry Phillips, Gerwyn Eynon and Anthony Eynon, and at the chapel Russell Davies, Eurfyl Lewis, Eric Richards, Robert Jones, Gwynfor Llewellyn and Elfyn Evans. Numerous others assisted with the organisation of the day.
There were family flowers only, and donations in lieu of flowers were for the ambulance service The funeral arrangements were carried out by W. J. Kenneth Davies, Blaenwern, Clynderwen.
Mrs R. Edwards
Tenby
The death occurred at Brooklands Nursing Home, Saundersfoot on October 9th of Ruth Edwards, formerly of The Ridges, Redberth, Tenby. She was 89.
As a native of Pembroke, she was a wife and mother and worked for many years at Wisemans Bridge Inn and caravan park.
Her greatest pride was in her large family and she also enjoyed knitting and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband James in 1991.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Sylvia and Donald, David, Anne, Peter and Judy, Garwood and Vicky, Ann and Mike (sons and daughters) and their respective families Paul and Lynne, Joanne and Jason, Stephen and Vera, Nick and Gwen, Neil, Kevin, Jayne and Geraint, Gareth and Charlotte, Jennie, Danny, Rhys, Owen, Matthew and other relatives too numerous to mention.
The funeral service was held at The Ridges followed by a large gathering of family and friends at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.
Rev David Faulkner and Rev Paul Davies officiated and the bearers were Nick, Gareth, Kevin, Danny, Rhys and Owen (grandsons).

Mr P. H. Brooks
Pembroke
The death occurred of Paul Henry Brooks, of Holyland Drive, Pembroke on October 15th in South Pembs Hospital. He was 61.
Originally from Birmingham he moved to Pembroke eight years ago.
His main interests were watching cricket, reading, listening to music, tv and his family.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Pat (wife); Kim (daughter); Kevin, Darren (sons); Mandy and Sharon (daughter’s-in-law); Martin (Kim’s partner); all the grandchildren; Lil Brooks (mum); his eight sisters and husbands, and nieces and nephews too many to mention.
The funeral service was held at St Michael’s Church, Pembroke, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was led by Rev Roger Jones.
The bearers were Kevin and Darren Brooks (sons); Paul Brooks, Ben Brooks, Matthew Brooks and Oliver Brooks (grandchildren).
There were family flowers only with donations if so desired for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Paul Sartori Foundation c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.
