Mr T. I. J. Hitchings
Hook
A large gathering from the sporting fraternity joined family and friends at Llangwm Methodist Church on November 20th for the funeral of Terence Ivor Jones Hitchings (Hitch), of New Road, Hook. Terry, who was 70, died suddenly on November 11th.
He was born and brought up in Hook, the only child of Dennis and Dolly Hitchings and attended Hook School and later Sir Thomas Picton, where he excelled at sport including football, but his two passions were cricket and rugby.
Upon leaving school Terry served his apprenticeship with Geo Lawrence as an electrician and later went to work with the NHS at Pembroke County war memorial hospital and Withybush Hospital, where he remained for 33 years until ill health forced him to retire in 1994.
‘Hitch’ started his cricketing career in the early 1950’s playing for Hook, with whom he stayed until he finished playing in 1982. On Sundays he played for Llangwm in the village cup and six-a-side as Hook did not field tams for these competitions.
At the age of 19 he won his county youth cap and in the same year he also won his senior county cap.
His rugby career at full back was spent with Llangwm where he continued playing until his late 30s.
He continued to support both Hook cricket and Llangwm rugby games until ill health prevented him.
Hitch also divided his time between Hook and Llangwm clubs by playing snooker for Hook and darts for Llangwm.
His other sporting passion was golf, being a lifetime member of Haverfordwest Golf Club. He was well known on the fairways of all local clubs and further afield and won many competitions around the county.
In October 2003 Terry married Hilary whom he had known all his life having been born and brought up in the same road in Hook, and they spent many happy times during this short period, holidaying abroad and the UK and in their garden at New Road.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Hilary (wife); Vivian Jones (uncle); Maurice and Sylvia Hughes (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Martyn and Claire Thomas; Richard and Susan Hughes (nephew and niece) and many cousins.
The body was received into Llangwm Methodist Church, where the service was taken by Rev Graham Lloyd and the bearers were his former workmates, and on Friday the services were led by Rev Linda Woollacott and Rev Alan Jenkins and the bearers were Hook Cricket Club and Llangwm Rugby Club members. The eulogy at the chapel was given by Rev Linda Woollacott and at the crematorium by Bill Carne.
There were family flowers only but donations in lieu may be sent to the Paul Sartori Foundation c/o Mrs. S. Hackett, New Road, Hook, SA62 4LH, or for Llangwm Methodist Chapel, c/o Mr. W. H. Hitchings, Westwinds, Ashdale Lane, Llangwm, SA62 4NU.

Mr R. D. Owen
Narberth
The death occurred on November 30th at Withybush Hospital of Robert David Owen (Bobby) of John Morgan Close, Narberth. He was 30.
His interests included socialising, horse riding, boating and he enjoyed listening to music.
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Hazel and Tom (mother and stepfather); Jenny and Richard (sister and brother); Peggy (great aunt); Joshua and James (cousins); David and Sue, Diana, Vaughan and family, Margaret and Ron, David and Cathy, Norman and Jan, Liz, Jean and Bill (aunts and uncles).
The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was led by Rev Elwyn John. The bearers were Paul Phillips, Peter Phillips, Wyn Phillips, Clive Jones, Ian Thomas and Andrew Feetham.
There were family flowers only with donations for ACDU, Withybush Hospital c/o E. C. Thomas and Son, funeral directors, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr R. T. G. Owen
Haverfordwest
The funeral took place on November 27th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium of Ron Owen, Prendergast, Haverfordwest, who died at Withybush Hospital on November 21st. He was 77.
A native of Haverfordwest, Ron worked for many years in the wines and spirits department of George’s (later Allied) Breweries at Withybush and later as head groundsman at Whitland Creameries.
After his retirement he worked for Nigel Williams butchers of Prendergast as a delivery driver. He supported the British Legion (Spittal branch) and became an admirer of the RNLI during his frequent visits to Little Haven over the years.
The funeral service was led by Canon G. Gwyther and the principal mourners are: Brenda Owen (wife); Mr and Mrs Graham Owen (brother and sister-in-law); Stephen and Mark Owen (nephews); Janine Mumford (niece) and her husband Peter, Roy Mathias (brother-in-law); Mr and Mrs Don Mathias (brother and sister-in-law). Also in attendance were members of the British Legion, Spittal branch accompanied by a standard bearer.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the RNLI c/o Mr. Chris Whitby, 5 Laburnum Grove, Haverfordwest SA61 1EU.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son.
Mr T. A. J. Duncan
Haverfordwest (formerly of Dale)
The death occurred of Terence A. J. Duncan (Terry), Moravian Court, Haverfordwest (formerly of Dale) on November 18th at his home. He was 66.
He was a native of Dale and was a scraper driver on heavy plant machines. He worked on all the ground-work on Esso, Gulf, Amoco and Texaco refineries.
Terry was involved in a motor bike accident over 20 years ago which left him unable to return to work.
His interests included following the hunt on his horse Penny, shooting, fishing, horse racing, clay pigeon shooting, walking and playing his harmonica.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Sandra and Reg Davies (sister and brother-in-law); Tyrone and Margaret Duncan (brother and sister-in-law); Paul and Lisa Duncan, Greg Davies and Diane Doncaster, Tanya Duncan, Rachel Duncan, Saskia Davies, Nicholas and Luke Duncan (nieces and nephews); Sian Jones, Malcolm Jones, Cynthia and Terry Setterfield (cousins and husband); Fiona, Daryl, Sally Bland, Keith and Sean, plus many more cousins and relatives.
The funeral service was held at St James Church, Dale followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and the followed burial in St James Churchyard, Dale. The service was led by Canon D. Wright, and the bearers were Mark Howells, Andrew Howells, Robert Thomas and Paul Absolum.

Mr B. D. McAleese
Formerly of Glasgow
The death occurred peacefully of Bernard Daniel McAleese (Mac), on November 23rd at Withybush Hospital aged 73.
Mac joined the navy at the age of 15 and was stationed at Chatham, Bahrain, Singapore and Brawdy, where he met Jenny who was a telephonist.
He then joined the prison service in Swansea and London.
He retired to Haverfordwest in 1989.
His interests included all sports, opera, sailing and crossword puzzles.
He was husband of Jenny; father to sons Ian and Nigel; brother to sister Ella and granddad to Rebecca, Lucy, Jessica, Charlotte, Ella and Daniel.
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was led by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son, Freystrop.
Capt D. T. LLOYD,
HAVERFORDWEST
The funeral of Captain Darrell Tyson Lloyd, 22 Clover Park, Haverfordwest took place on November 23rd.
He was born in 1926 in Martletwy. After serving in the RAF during World War Two, he was an insurance salesman. He subsequently rejoined the forces serving in the Seaforth Highlanders and then the Royal Engineers with whom he served up to retirement rising through the ranks to captain.
He married Molly Merrony and had three children.
Darrell joined Hedley Davis in Haverforwest and was one of the directors. His professional advice was valued by all who knew him and his honesty in business was beyond reproach. He retired at the age of 65 but continued to work part time, retiring for good at the age of 75.
He was the companion of Audrey Ellard whom he loved dearly, but she died last year. Their shared love was for their two dogs Bobby and Ziggy and they were a familiar sight in Uzmaston on their daily walks.
He was a regular worshipper at Uzmaston Church and will be remembered for his wonderful singing voice. Darrell was also president of the West Wales Korean Veteran’s Association.
He is survived by his three children, Jonathan Lloyd, of Beaucouzé, France, Jane Lloyd Djain of Auckland, New Zealand and Sarah Nash of Pant Glas, Shropshire. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
Mrs P. L. Watkins
Pembroke Dock
The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on November 4th of Patricia Lillian Watkins, of 9 North Street, Pembroke Dock, she was 79.
She was a native of Pembroke Dock and was predeceased by her husband Derek Watkins in 1995. Her main focus was her family.
The chief mourners are her daughter and son-in-law Janice and John Huddleston; her grandchildren Michael and Michelle and their partners Sarah and Craig; her great grandchildren Joshua, Callum, Leon, Caitln and Freya; her sisters Agnes and Doreen in Australia; her nieces Trisha and Irene and their partners John and Tim; along with other family members too numerous to mention.
The funeral service was held at St Patrick’s Church, Pembroke Dock and was officiated by Rev. Shirley Rayner with burial at Llanion Cemetry.
The bearers were David Huddleston, David Scott, Richard Scott and Haydn James.
There were family flowers only and donations if desired can be sent to the Stroke Association c/o John Roberts and Son, who carried out the funeral arrangements.
