Mrs J. Hughes

Milford Haven

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on February 13th of Joan Hughes (Joanie Khan) aged 68 years. Joanie bore her illness with dignity and fortitude. She was a much-loved sister, aunt, friend and neighbour.

Her working life of over 40 years was spent in Consort, Milford Haven where she developed many life long friends. Her main interests were her family and her regular trips to France. A personal eulogy written by her niece Allison, who was unable to attend the service, was read by her niece Michelle along with a poem by her nephew Jon.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jeanette and Keith, Wendy and Jake (sisters and husbands); Phillip and Hayley (brother and wife); Teresa and Billy (sister and husband); Virginia (sister); Mark and Julie (brother and wife), also many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The service was led by Canon John Davies and the bearers were Phillip Khan, Mark Khan, Billy Howlin and Jake Russell.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for the National Autistic Society, may be sent c/o J. Kinsella, 42 Westhill Avenue, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs B. M. Davies

Fishguard

The funeral service was held February 4th of Beryl Davies, of Bridge Street, Lower Fishguard, who died on January 30th at Withybush Hospital aged 80.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was led by her minister, Rev D. Carl Williams who was assisted by Rev John Roberts.

Principal mourners are:- Randal (husband); Stuart, Richard and Corinna (sons and daughter-in-law); Helen (daughter); Alastair and Isabelle (grandchildren); Eirwen (sister); Gwyneth, Noel, Roy and Lauretta (sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law); Lisa, Gerald and Andre (nieces and nephews).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Goodwick Surgery and Coronary Care Unit, Withybush Hospital c/o HSBC Bank, West Street, Fishguard.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.

Mrs E. H. Jenkins

Milford Haven

Eileen Jenkins died on February 6th at Canterbury House residential home, Milford Haven aged 100 years seven months.

The funeral took place on February 12th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

Eileen was born in Milford Haven. Her father hailed from St Albans and her mother from London. She married John Howard Jenkins on July 16, 1940 in St Katharine’s Church and was predeceased by husband who died in August 1968; also her brothers Tom and Jim Prior and sisters Doris Morgan, Maureen Thomas, Edna Scurlock and Eva Whisby.

Attending the funeral were Mrs F. Brown, Mrs D. Busby, Mr J. and Mrs M. A. Prior, Mrs J. Asby, Mr B. Scurlock, Mrs Meg Setterfield, Mr D. and Mrs J. Howells, Mr T. and Mrs V. Scutt, Mr B. and Mrs A. Jenkins, Mr J. and Mrs M. Jenkins, Mr R. and Mrs O. Asby and numerous friends.

Shelia Prior could not attend due to illness.

Funeral arrangements were undertaken by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs D. M. Lewis

Wiseman’s Bridge

The funeral took place on February 12th of Dorothy Lewis, affectionately known to everyone as ‘Dolly’, who died at White Park, Wiseman’s Bridge on February 4th, aged 95.

Born at Blaencilgoed House, Ludchurch, she was the eldest daughter of David and Maggie Scourfield of Belle Vue Farm.

In her early days she worked at Richard Davies (Narberth) and as a receptionist for Dr Thomas at Pembroke Dock and later at the Harvey, Coedrath Saundersfoot, eventually coming to White Park Farm in 1939, when she married George, who sadly pre-deceased her ten years ago.

Dolly worked hard throughout her life and together with her husband set up a dairy herd and milk round, grew potatoes, bred horses and in later years began one of the first caravan sites in Pembrokeshire.

Her main interests were gardening and cooking and she was inseperable from her pet dog Fritz.

Many floral tributes and gifts of cakes were received at the house.

The funeral service took place at St Issells Church, Saundersfoot on February 12th followed by interment in St. Issells Cemetery.

The officiating minister was Canon M. Butler assisted by Rev. Richard Rees.

As a tribute to their grandmother, Eleanor and Sam both read poems during the service.

The principal mourners are: Margaret and John, Helen and Bob (daughters and sons-in-law), Henry and Veronica (son and daughter-in-law), Carl, Adam, Oliver and Sam (grandsons); and Eleanor (grandaughter). Carl was unable to attend the funeral.

The bearers were Adam Joseph, David Scourfield, Peter Scourfield, John Philips, Malcolm Richards and George Jones.

Mrs I. M. Box

Pembroke Dock

After a long stay at Withybush Hospital, Iris Maud Box, of Pembroke Haven, Pembroke Dock died on January 24th. She was 95.

As a native of Pembroke Dock, she helped out in the family business in Meyrick Street, where her parents had a fish and chip shop for many years.

Her late husband Leslie Box was an engineer in the Royal Navy and was stationed in Singapore for a number of years. She loved dancing and parties.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Ivor Warren (cousin); plus numerous friends.

The service was held at Zion Church, Meyrick Street, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery and was officiated by Rev Hugh Michael.

The bearers were Robert Morgan, Philip Lunt, Phil Tallet, Julian Jordan, Brian Jordan and Paul Hay.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the salvation Army (Carmarthen Branch), c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs M. E. Llewellyn

Neyland

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on February 4th of Margaret Elizabeth Llewellyn, of Blenheim Drive, Honeyborough, Neyland after a long illness. She was 77.

She was born in Bath, and was the only child of the late Percy and Blanche Dancey and was the wife of Basil Llewellyn, of Neyland.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Basil (husband); David, Lorraine and Richard (sons and daughter); Michelle (daughter-in-law); Gavin, Adrian, Laura-Jayne, Ben, Alex and Ryan (grandchildren); Alison and Sally (partners of Gavin and Adrian); the late Simon (grandson) and other family and friends too numerous to mention.

A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral service at St Clements Church, Neyland and later at Parc Gwyn, which were both led by the Rev Paul Flavell.

The bearers were Gavin Llewellyn, Adrian Llewellyn, Ben Llewellyn and Alex Llewellyn (grandsons).

There were immediate family flowers only, but donations can be sent for the Diabetes Association c/o Mr John Gay, 7 Hazelbank, Llanstadwell, Neyland.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and assisted by Susan Price, of Freystrop.

Mr C. G. R. Cole

Lamphey

Cyril George Rees Cole, of Lamphey, Pembroke died on January 29th after a short stay in Withybush Hospital. He was 79.

Originally from Martletwy and Carew, he was recognised as a fine carpenter joiner. He started his apprenticeship at the age of 14. He went on to form a building and funeral director partnership of 32 years with his cousin the late Norman Cole.

Cyril played cricket for Carew, Lamphey and Pembroke Cricket Clubs and was a renowned wicket keeper. In recent years he was honoured to be invited to act as president of Carew Cricket Club. He was also a member of Pembroke and District male voice choir, where he made many good friends and sang in the tenor section.

He also loved gardening and spending time with his wife, family and particularly his seven grandchildren.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Dilys (wife); Wendy and Clive Butland, Glenda and Kevin Rees, Sandra and Keith Sharpe (daughters and sons-in-law); Gareth, David, Jessica, Sian, Timothy, Rhys and Iwan (grandchildren); Elvira Cole (sister-in-law); Stephen and Pam Cole, Susan and Ian Williams, Michael and Sue Brown, Alan, Bernadette and Nicola Brown, David and Vicky Brown, Janet and Ian Crompton (nephews and nieces); Connie Scourfield (aunt); Andrew Busby (fiancé of Jessica); Carys Wilkes (girlfriend of David); plus cousins too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Blodwen Williams (aunt); Mr and Mrs Albert Brown (brother-in-law), Christine Stant (niece).

There was a large attendance at both the services which were held at Lamphey Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, which were officiated by Venerable Graham Davies.

The bearers at the church were: Wesley Cole, Rob Hicks, Robert Scourfield, Phil Jones, Martin Cole and Kelly Scourfield. The bearers at the crematorium were: Ron Lloyd, Frank Harries, Gerry Gommo, George Lewis, Christine Lloyd and Jenny Griffiths.

Mr N. Evans

Newport

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on February 9th of Norman Evans, of Maes Ingli, Newport. He was 74.

He was a lorry driver for most of his life, but latterly drove a bus for disabled and special needs children. He was a well known character in Newport having been the landlord at The Royal Oak some time ago and also helping out at the local golf course.

Ten years ago Norman and Eira lost their only daughter Jayne to cancer at the age of 33.

There was a private service at The Wern Chapel of Rest, Clynderwen, led by Rev Huw George followed by a service of thanksgiving at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.

The family left to mourn and the principal mourners are: wife Eira; son Derek; grandchildren Nia and Owen; brother-in-law Les; nephews and nieces Kenneth, Margaret and families, and many more relatives and close friends.

Mrs O. H. Griffiths

Pembroke Dock (formerly of Tenby)

The death of Olga Heather Griffiths, of Market Street, Pembroke Dock, formerly of Picton Road, Tenby, occurred at Withybush Hospital on January 7th. She was 87.

She enjoyed socialising and was predeceased by her husband Peter Julian Griffiths in 1987.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Margaret and Peter Walker (daughter and son-in-law); David and Elizabeth Griffiths (son and daughter-in-law); Linda, Ivor, Ceri, Sian, Jenny, Laura and James (grandchildren); Caitlin, Travis, Coverley, Evelyn and Rhys (greatgrandchildren).

The service was held at Zoar Chapel funeral home, Llanteg, followed by interment at Tenby cemetery, officiated by Father Paul Davies.

The bearers were family and friends. A short poem was read out and a tribute paid by her grandchildren, Laura and James.

Mr M. R. Crocker

Pembroke Dock

The death of Michael Robert Crocker (Croka), of St Patricks Road, Pembroke Dock, occurred on January 13th, at Withybush Hospital. He was 22.

He spent three years at Pembrokeshire College and worked as a carpenter for a local construction firm.

He played rugby, football and cricket for Pembroke School, rugby for Pembroke Rugby Club and football for Hundleton, Pennar Robins and Pembroke Boro.

He played played darts for the First and Last pub in Pembroke Dock and was also a keen Manchester United supporter..

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Lorraine and Robbie (parents); James (brother); Emily and family (girlfriend); Ken and Verona (great-aunt and uncle); Tony and Beattie, Raymond and Sara, Gwyn and Chris, David and Sharron, Paul and Tracy, Gordie and Donna, Andy and Liz, Ian and Sian, Gail and Vanny, Christine, Yvonne (aunties and uncles), plus cousins too numerous to mention.

The funeral service was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, followed by interment at Llanion cemetery, officiated by Nigel Thomas.

The bearers were Sean Meaney, Darren Griffiths (cousin), Carl Lewis, Lee Walker, Wayne Skyrme, Peter Hillier.

Mrs D. E. M. Johns

Tenby

Dorothy Ethel May Johns (Dolly) died at Belmont Court nursing home on January 28th. She was 97 and was formerly of The Norton, Tenby and Llanteg.

A native of Pembroke, she worked in various places before setting up a shop in Tenby’s North Beach car park which she ran for many years.

Her family was her main interest and she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was married to her husband Ronnie for more than 60 years prior to his death in 1994.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Hazel Carter (daughter); Billy Johns (son); Pam Johns (daughter-in-law); Christine and Chris Welti (granddaughter and husband); David and Penny Cope, Andrew and Gill Cope, Simon and Nicola Carter (grandsons and wives); Maxine and Peter Conway (granddaughter and husband); Philip Welti and Claire, Michael Welti and Alyson, Steven Welti and Jen, Daniel Cope and Alice (great-grandsons and partners); Lucy, Nicholas and Richard Cope, Jordan, Amy and Euan Carter, Natalie and Alex Conway (great-grandchildren), plus numerous nephews and nieces.

Unable to attend were Maxine and Peter Conway (granddaughter and husband); Natalie and Alex Conway, Euan Carter (great- grandchildren).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Huw George.

Mrs C. Drake

Tenby (formerly of Wiston)

The funeral took place on February 22nd of Caroline Drake, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Wiston .

She died at Withybush Hospital on February 13th, aged 63.

Family left to mourn are: Jim (husband); Becky and Paul, Mary and Allan, Lucy and Darren, Ruth and Scott (daughters and sons-in-law); Matthew, Lottie, Luke, Chloe, Dylan, Olivia and Sophia (grandchildren).

Mrs K. Thornton

Tenby (formerly of Haverfordwest)

The death of Mrs Kathleen Thornton occurred at Withybush Hospital, on February 21st. She was 93.

Kathleen had lived at Belmont Court nursing home, Tenby, for the last five years and was formerly of Augustine Way, Haverfordwest.

She was pre-deceased by her husband James.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jim (son); Kevin and Veronica (son and daughter-in-law); Emma and Simon, Catherine and Simon (granddaughters and husbands) and great-grandchildren Stanley and Bella.

Requiem Mass was held at Holyrood and St Teilo Catholic Church, Tenby. Interment took place at City Road cemetery, Haverford-west.

The service was led by Father Owen McGreal and the bearers were Paul Handley, Simon, Jeremy and Tim Rossiter.

Mr P. Zimmer

Pembroke Dock

A large congregation attended the funeral service of well known barber Peter Zimmer on January 13th, at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock.

Originally from Oxford, Peter moved to Pembroke Dock in 1978 where he worked for a short time at Texaco Refinery until he established his barber shop in Bush Street, 1981.

Peter soon became well known and will be remembered for having the town’s first barber shop, where there was always a welcome and it was somewhere to catch up on all of the local gossip.

Peter had experienced ill health for the past few years, but would never give in to it.

He was an active member of the RAOB Pater Lodge and was also in local pool and darts teams.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Shaun and Leigh (sons); Gemma and Leanne (sons’ partners); Stefanie (daughter); and much loved grandaughter Tilly. Also Hazel and Paul (twin sister and husband); Phillip and Kim (brothers); Elaine and many more family and friends too numerous to mention.

The bearers were Paul Bowen, Terry Middleton, Stephen Ross, Jimmy Wallace, Johnny Morris and Dave Broomhall.

The funeral service was led by Rev Nigel Thomas, and was followed by interment at Llanion cemetery, where members of the RAOB officiated at a moving ceremony.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Parkinsons Disease Society and the British Heart Foundation, being sent to John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6AN who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs M. Cole

Llanteg

The death of Madeline Cole, of The Downs, Llanteg, Narberth, occurred on January 20th at Withybush Hospital. She was 64.

Originally from Warwickshire, she worked for ten years with Coventry City Council as a graphic designer and exhibition designer. Then 27 years with Coventry University as the technical services manager in the school of art and design. She retired in 2002.

Her interests included being a member of Llanteg village hall community, secretary of Llanteg community association and vice-chairman of Amroth community council.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Bob Cole (husband); Kearsley (daughter); Mary (mother); Michael and Elizabeth (brother and sister-in-law); Keith and Amanda (brother-in-law and wife); Rosie (niece).

The service, held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, was led by Rev Sarah Geach.

The bearers were John James, Tony Brinsden, Roy James and Calvin Williams.

Mrs G. M. Morgans

Pembroke

Gwyneth May Morgans (Gwen) died at home in Marchants Park, Pembroke, on February 2nd, while being nursed by her husband Kelvin and son Michael. She was 73.

Originally from Ferry Lane, Pembroke Dock, she worked at the old Davies Steel Factory, Pembroke Dock until her marriage.

She enjoyed bingo and was a member of the Black Rabbit Club and Swifts.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Kelvin (husband); Anthony and Michael (sons); Elizabeth and Sian (daughters) and grandchildren.

The service was held at Monkton Priory Church, followed by interment at Llanion cemetery, officiated by Rev Martin Coy.

The bearers were Michael Morgans (son); Colwyn Evans, Clifford Cole and John Davies (friends).

Ar Tachwedd 9ed 2009, ar ol salwch byr, bu farw John Llewellyn Davies (Jack), 5 Dan-yr-Eglwys, Y Mot, yn ysbyty Llwynhelyg, yn 82 mlwydd oed.

Dyn ei filltir sgwar oedd Jack, yn gymeriad hoffus, wedi bod yn gweithio ar nifer o ffermydd yr ardal, gweithio gyda’r Comisiwn Coedwigaeth, ac hefyd gyda’r Cyngor Sir hyd ei ymddeoliad.

‘Roedd ganddo nifer o ddiddordebau ond ei brif ddiddordeb oedd ceffylau, yn enwedig ceffylau rasio, ac ‘roedd yn gyd-berchen ar un o’r rhain.

Cynhaliwyd y gwasanaeth angladdol yn Amolsgfa Parcgwyn Arberth ar ddydd Gwener, Tachwedd 13eg, a chafodd ei weddillion eu claddu ym mynwent Maenclochog. ‘Roedd y dyrfa luosog yn tystio i boblogrwydd Jack.

Mrs V. W. de-Kulik

Haverfordwest

Valerie de-Kulik, nee Williams, from New Road, Haverfordwest, died on February 17th in Withybush Hospital, after a prolonged illness.

She was buried in the grounds of Silver Heights, Wiston, not far from her dogs and horses.

Val was one of Haverfordwest’s oldest personalities. She was born in 1920 in a flat in the Drill Hall,as her father was in the army.

As a child, she lived for eight years in Pismo Beech and Los Angeles, California, with her parents. On returning to Haverfordwest she attended Hill House College and later the Convent Finishing School in Kensington, London.

Horses were her greatest love she often skipped lessons for a ride.

On returning to Haverfordwest, she was often seen on her white Arab horse ,with a terrier in front of her on the saddle, riding along the streets or hunting with the hounds.

During the Second World War she served for four years with the armed forces.

In April of 1948 she married a Polish army officer.

After the war, she worked as a secretary in South Wales Electricity Board in Haverfordwest. For a time she was also secretary to the Pembrokeshire Hunt.

In those days she may also be remembered by many as a glamorous blonde woman, driving her open white E-Type Jaguar, with a black dog, Puddle, on her lap.

Left to mourn is her husband of nearly 62 years.
