John Lewis Anthony Morris (Tony) was born in Newport, Monmouthshire in 1921, the second child of the late J. E. P. Morris and Mrs Morris of Kiln Park, Narberth, and grandson of the late Rev John Morris, Rector of Narberth.

The family left Newport in his early years and lived in Wellfield Road, Carmarthen for some time.

Tony was educated at St George’s School Windsor Castle, having won a choral scholarship, and he sang at the marriage of the late Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Marina at Westminster Abbey. He also sang at the jubilee celebrations of King George V and Queen Mary. During the early part of the war, Tony and his family moved to Haven Road, Haverfordwest. His father joined James Eaton Evans firm of solictors, and they worshipped at St Mary’s Church. The family moved to Kiln Park House in Narberth, and Tony became clerk to the Narberth UDC. He joined the St Andrew’s Church Players and was a church warden for many years.

Tony was an active member of the Narberth horticultural shows, exhibiting his sweet peas.

His law studies were interrupted by the Second World War when he joined the Royal Artillery, became a captain, and served in India with the 7th Army division. After the war he continued his articles with his father and became a junior partner in the firm of Eaton Evans and Morris.

In 1959 he married Mary and became town clerk of Tenby. Seimon was born in 1961 and Sally in 1963. In 1964 the family moved to Berkshire where Tony found a position at the Eton RDC. After two years they moved to Redditch where Tony was chief legal officer to the New Town’s Commission and stayed there for 18 years.

The family returned to Pembrokeshire in 1984, and Tony took up gardening and amateur dramatics. He was chief guide at Picton Castle for 15 years, and in that time wrote historical facts for the guidebook at the castle.

After his son Seimon’s return to Pembrokeshire, they became a double act with Tony writing lyrics for Seimon to compose for church, young farmers and WIs. They wrote their first pantomime for the drama society in Clarbeston Road.

Tony was a practising Anglican who loved good church music and was proud of his family, who continue to worship in the Anglican tradition.
