His grandparents Charlie and Olive Dunford lived in Waterloo. As a child Mike spent hours and hours in Silcox’s with his grandfather Charlie, better known as Manker and by the time he was 11 years old he could park coaches perfectly. This is where he developed his passion for anything mechanical, which lead to a full apprenticeship with Silcox, which he thoroughly enjoyed. From Intep, Mike went on to work as a contractor at, what was then, the Texaco Oil Refinery, where he worked on many projects and shutdowns.

After building his boat in the late 60’s early 70’s he became a member of Pembroke Haven Motor Boat Club where his passion for fishing and diving became a lifelong hobby. He was Chairman of PHMBC for many years helping to organise all the children’s fishing competitions and charity events.

Mike had a very keen interest in the Sunderland Trust and Spitfire Association and spent many voluntary hours assisting at the Martello Tower in Pembroke Dock.
