Mr Michael William Griffiths

Tenby

The death occurred suddenly on August 21st of Michael William Griffiths aged 60. Mike was born in Tenby and attended Greenhill School where his talent for rugby was first noticed.

We went on to train as a PE teacher in Chester College and he was invited to play for Great British Colleges and subsequently Stade Toulousain in France.

Mike greatly enjoyed his time in Toulouse and made friends with many of the French internationals he played alongside. He returned to the UK to take up a teaching position in Wandsworth Boys School and later a sales job with Johnson and Johnson. It was during his time in London he married his first wife Sandra and raised their two children Sian and Aled.

Mike continued to play rugby during this time representing the prestigious London Welsh and Harlequins teams. In 1991 Mike and his family returned to his beloved Tenby to run the ‘Trafalgar Café’. He went on to teach at Netherwood School, Saundersfoot, St John Lloyd School, Llanelli and more recently Milford Haven Comprehensive from 2001 until his death.

Mike was always involved with rugby and spent many years coaching the Pembrokeshire Under 15’s. He organised regular reunions with his old rugby team at Chester College, which later included the football team. In April 2001 Mike married Cathy and moved to Penffordd, where he lived happily surrounded by his beloved animals.

He leaves to mourn his wife Cathy, daughter Sian, son Aled and grandchildren Ellie and Lucy. Also stepson Steven, wife Leisa and step grandson Tyler, stepson David, stepdaughter Elizabeth and partner Barry, along with his sister Susan, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His funeral was held on September 1st at St Marys Church, Tenby and at the Crematorium Narberth and was conducted by the Rev Andrew Davies. It was attended by large numbers of his friends and colleagues. Tributes were received from Stade Toulousain, London Welsh Rugby Club, Tenby Rugby Club and Pembroke Dock Quins.

Unable to attend were stepson Steven and his wife Leisa (New Zealand).

The bearers included John Adams, Hugh Griffiths, Jim Roach, Pat Rees, Lyn Rees, Barry Parsons, Gethin Evans, Steve Ware, Martyn Williams, Simon Toy, Steve Parsons and Richard Ormond.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired to cancer research and The Dogs Trust.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by W and M J Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby.

Mrs Evelyn Megan Shave

Pembroke Dock

Mrs Evelyn Megan Shave died on October 22nd at her home in Tremeyrick Street, Pembroke Dock. She was 88.

During her working life she worked for British Steel Factory, MOD.

She was a mother and housewife and her life revolved around her family and spending time with her sisters and her husband Edwin ‘George’ Shave, who had predeceased her.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Susan Ebrey (daughter); Reginald Ebrey (son-in-law); Jim and Valarie Waving (sister and brother-in-law); Christopher Ebrey (grandchild); Phillip Ebrey (grandson); Anna Walton (granddaughter); Carl Walton (son-in-law); Lenard and Linda Brown (nephew) plus several nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren too numerous to mention.

The service was held at St Johns Church and officiated by the Rev Thelma Williams.

The bearers were Christopher Ebrey (grandson), Phillip Ebrey (grandson), Carl Walton (granddaughters husband), Lenard Brown (nephew).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Pembroke Dock.

Mr D. W. Taylor

Pembroke Dock(Formerly of Narberth)

The funeral took place recently of at Parc Gwyn Crematorium Narberth of Mr David William Taylor of Castle Street, Pembroke Dock. Aged 66, he passed away October 20th at Withybush Hospital ,Ward 10. A native of Narberth he worked at a number of jobs but his main work was as a coal merchant in and around the surrounding area of Narberth, finishing his working career as the proprietor of Optic UK Services (Pink Card Directory) based in Pembroke Dock where he moved to in 2000. Up until a few months before his death he was a driver for the voluntary Wales Ambulance Cars, a job he gained much satisfaction from helping others.

He had many interests which included being a member of the Narberth Castle Lodge of the R.A.O.B, later member of the Cambrian Lodge of Freemasons, Neath. Recently he had great enjoyment as a member of both indoor and outdoor bowls teams of the Pembroke Dock Bowling Club, this he did up until the week before his admittance to hospital.

David with be greatly missed by many whose hearts and lives he touched, he was always available at anytime to help anyone he could.

He will be sadly missed by his family and memories they have will be treasured.

The family left to mourn are Barry and Louvaine Taylor, Roy and Ann Taylor, Ian and Barbara Taylor, Edward and Sharon Taylor (brothers and sisters-in-law); Ann and Bob Adams, Mary and Hubert Davies (sisters and brothers-in-law); Cathy Taylor and Sue Pearson (civil partners).

The funeral service was conducted Rev. Elwyn John assisted by Mr Hywel Jones Bearers at the crematorium were Ryan Boswell, Trudy Boswell, Bob Ellis, Stephen John (good friends and neighbours), Paul Armstrong and David Bentley-Miller (friends).

The principle mourners were family members named above, Beryl and Mervyn Mallin, Neath (Aunt and Uncle), many nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to name, supported by many friends near and far.

MR M.T. BROWN

MERLINS BRIDGE

The death occurred of Malcolm Thomas Brown, of Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest in hospital on October 13th. He was 64.

Originally from Cardiff, Malcolm was brought up in Crundale, he joined the Navy at 16 and in later years worked as a milk tanker driver for Bibby driving out of Haverfordwest.

Malcolm enjoyed playing golf at Priskilly Golf Course where he had many friends, and had enjoyed fishing in his earlier years. Malcolm loved his family and home where he would spend many hours in his garden.

Malcolm will be missed dearly by many friends and collegues who showed their appreciation of his life by the large number in attendance at his funeral.

The funeral took place at St Thomas Church and then at Parc Gwyn on October 20th, the service was officiated by Rev. Fr Harri Williams.

The principal mourners were Joyce (wife); Stephen and Laraine (son and daughter-in-law); Gaynor and Arthur (daughter and partner); Mark and Lisa (son and fiance); Derek (brother); Kyle, Josh, Owen, Sophie, Thomas, Dylan, Alex, 'Ella and Jack (grandchildren); plus nieces and nephews as well as many friends and neighbours.

The bearers were Mally Thomas (brother-in-law); Phil Evans (golf friend); Mark Thomas (friend and colleague); Dave Crocker (golf friend).

Mr Basil Ralph Woodruff

Milford Haven

The death occurred at Williamston Nursing Home, Houghton of Mr Basil Ralph Woodruff of South Hook Road, Gelliswick Bay, Milford Haven on October 19th. He was 89.

Originally from Sandwich, Kent, he served in the Royal Navy between 1939-1944 on HMS Stronghold, HMS Ramier, HMS Lancaster, HMS Lamerton, HMS Wheatland, HMS Pukerudge, HMS Meteor. Seeing action in the North Russian Convoys, Artic Conveys, Algiers, Genoa, Malta, Murmansk. He was a fruit porter at Selfridge's, a door to door salesman, Trinity House pilot on the Thames and then in Milford Haven, where he retired from over 26 years ago.

Basil served as a Dyfed county councillor and Pembs councillor, as chairman of Pembrokeshire National Park, chairman of public protection, chairman of Mid and West Wales Fire Service, chairman of Torch Theatre. He opened Milford Haven Comprehensive school when it opened. Also loved Scottish Dancing and was a life long member of the Liberal Party.

He had a huge love of sport having won medals for highjump, cricket and rugby. He had a trial for England at Rugby and Kent for cricket. He also did fund raising for RNLI.

He was predeceased by his wife Constance Woodruff in 2007.

The family left to mourn are Jocelyn and Phillip Llewhellin (daughter and son-in-law); Rosemary (daughter unable to attend); John and Kate (son and daughter-in-law); Tom, Jack, Molly, Rebecca and Beth (grandchildren); Jill Bain, Ian Bain, Fiona Sansome, Tim Cole; Margaret and Brian Cullen (niece and husband); Mark, Colin and Anne Abraham (brother-in-law); Andy Abraham (nephew); Marian Anderton (life long friends unable to attend). Nick Kent and Cindy Bishop (nephew and niece unable to attend).

The funeral service was held at Hubberston Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth and was officiated by Canon John Davies.

The bearers were Tom Woodruff (nephew), Jack Woodruff (nephew), Colonel Mark Abraham OBE (nephew), Tim Abraham (nephew), Andrew Abraham (nephew), Captain Ian Evans Rtd (life long friend and colleague).

Mr John David Cornish

Haverfordwest

The death occurred at the home of Mr John David Cornish of Cleddau Avenue, Haverfordwest on October 25th. He was 81.

As a native of Milford Haven, he attended Milford Haven Grammar School and then worked in the Yarmouth stores for eight years. He then moved to Haverfordwest to live and worked in Hodges, Castle Square for 15 years.

Then he became manager of Hylton John menswear for 25 years and retired in 1995.

His main interests included his family, being a keen gardener, a trustee in the Balfour Club and also a member of the BT and PO veterans and services club.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Pauline (wife); Linda and Gary Stephens (daughter and son-in-law); Alan and Nikki Cornish (son and daughter-in-law); Gary and Joanna Cornish (son and daughter-in-law); Matthew and Alexa (grandson and partner); Laura and Jamie (granddaughter and husband); Luke and Dylan (grandsons); George and Jean Thomas (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Jane Cornish (sister-in-law); Alison Skuse (niece); Martin Thomas (nephew); Michael and Lorna Witty (cousin); Philip and Jenny Witty (cousin); Fred and Anne Thomas (cousin); Enid Laugharne (aunt); Betty Slark (aunt), plus numerous other cousins, Audrey and John Tozer (close friends).

Unable to attend were Matthew and Alexa (grandson and partner); Laura and Jamie (granddaughter and husband); Jane Cornish (sister-in-law); Philip and Jenny Witty (cousin).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Canon G Gwyther.

The bearers were Gary Slark, Mike Robinson, Neil Phillips and Brian Lavin.
