Jean Dorothy PLATT Solva Jean Dorothy Platt of Solva, died peacefully on November 8th after a short illness, aged 83 years. She was a dearly loved mother of Rosemary and Richard, mother-in-law of Paul and Jasmine, grandmother of Mark, Tim, Simon, James, Lucy and Amanda, great grandmother of Beth, Sam, Kitty and Lula, sister of Pat and sister-in-law of Eifion and Marjorie. Widow of Geoffrey, former County Architect, who died in 2001.

The funeral service and celebration of Jean’s life was held on November 15th at St Aidan’s Church, Solva, followed by a service at Park Gwyn Crematorium.

Originally from Walthamstow, London, Jean moved to Pembrokeshire in 1949. After a brief stay in Little Haven, she moved to Solva where she lived for 61 years. She participated fully in village life, serving on the Parish Council and on the Memorial Hall Committee. She was a leading light in the Women’s Institute, both at local and at County level, serving as President of Solva WI on a number of occasions. She also spent many years employed at the village surgery under Dr. Gillam and gave freely of her time as a volunteer teacher at Solva CP School. Her interests were many and varied, encompassing gardening, cookery, country crafts, needlework, reading and writing, Radio 4, amateur dramatics, music, puzzles, crosswords and scrabble. Jean will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Mr Philip J Marchant Milford Haven The funeral took place at St Peter and St Cewydd Church Steynton on Tuesday November 15th of Mr Philip J Marchant of Westfield Close, Milford Haven. Philip passed away at his home after a long battle with illness. He was aged 63.

The middle son of James (Jacky) and Betty Marchant, Philip was born in Steynton and attended North Road Boys School and Milford Haven Grammar School. He was a keen footballer, cricketer and golfer. After finishing his education he joined what was to become National Westminster Bank Plc at Milford Haven. Philip went on to work at Aberystwyth, Stafford, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Bedworth, Cardiff and finally full circle back to Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

Philip was pre-deceased by his only child Garvin in 2007. He will be greatly missed by his wife Susan, grandchildren Ella and Leon, daughter-in-law Wendy, brother Robert, plus nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Many family, friends and colleagues from all over the county attended the service.

The bearers were Mr John Hart (cousin), Mr Kenny Clay (friend), Mr John Jones (colleague, Cardiff) and Mr Delme Davies (colleague, Swansea).

Rev Derek Davies and Canon John Davies conducted the service and Mr Bert James (colleague, Aberaeron) gave the eulogy.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired to be shared between The Paul sartori Foundation, Macmillan Nurses and Tenby Lifeboat Station being received by the Manager, National Westminster Bank, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven Mr Edward George Poole (Eddie) Milford Haven Mr Edward George Poole (Eddie) of Woodland Crescent, Milford Haven, passed away at his home on November 15th. He was 81.

As a native of Milford Haven he attended the towns grammer school. Eddie was a bricklayer by trade, he built many bungalows and houses in the Milford area, later on in life Eddie became a fish hawker until he retired.

He served his national service as a military police officer in Scotland and in Iserlohn Germany, where he met his wife Inge.

Holidays were Eddie's great love, he would take the family to Germany most summers to see their grandparents and other relatives, in later years they headed for the sun.

He was very proud of his nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, always looking forward to seeing them.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Inge (wife); Pat and Richard Setterfield (daughter and son-in-law); Terry and Julie Poole, Michael and Tricia Poole (sons and daughter-in-law); Michael and Danielle Setterfield, David and Sharon Abbott (grandsons and wives); Andrew Setterfield (grandson); Rachel and Mark Bishop, Karriann and Matt Pickford (granddaughters and husbands); Hannah Poole and Rob Foster (granddaughter and partner); Jamie Pool, Jodie Poole (granddaughters); Caine, Daniel, Ava and Adam (great grandchildren); Kathleen Charles (sister); Jimmy Poole (brother), plus many nephews, nieces and cousins, friends too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend was Marianne Zwinscher (sister-in-law) from Germany.

The service was held at St Katharines and St Peters Church, Milford Haven and was officiated by Rev Derek Davies.

The bearers were Michael Setterfield, Andrew Setterfield, David Abbott and Andrew Abbott (grandsons).

Donations in lieu to The Chemotherapy Day Unit, Withybush Hospital, may be sent to the hospital manager.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and son, Milford Haven.

Miss Rosie James St.Davids The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on October 19th of Rosetta James (Rosie) of Pen-y Garn, St.Davids.

Originally from Llety, Carnhedryn she had lived in St.Davids for many years.

The principal mourners were Elizabeth and Jim Parsons, Jennifer and Trevor Stanbridge (nieces and husbands); Rachel and Matthew, Julia and Mark (great nieces and partners) together with numerous cousins and friends.

Unable to attend was Matthew Parsons (great nephew) The funeral service was held at Tabernacle Chapel, St.Davids on October 28th and was followed by a cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

The casket was later interred in her parents grave at Caerfarchell Cemetery.

The service was conducted by the Revd Wiliam T.E. Owen assisted by Mr John Evans (cousin) and the organist was Mrs Margaret Evans.

The bearers were Mr Huw Evans (cousin), Mr Gerald Nash, Mr Tony Pearce and Mr Malcolm Gray.

Mr Ron Davies Milford Haven The funeral took place recently of Mr Ron Davies who died at Withybush Hospital on November 12th at the age of 79. He lived in Bay View Drive, Milford Haven.

Originally from Marloew, he served 22 years in the Royal Navy as a chief petty officer, seconded to the Australian Navy with his family for 2 1/2 years.

He then worked for Elf Refinery and retired at the age of 65 years.

His interests included water skiing as a young man, being a member of the Milford Golf Club where he enjoyed the annual Navy Day and was Bunsun for 'Tots Up'. He was also well known for calling bingo at the British Legion Club, causing a chuckle with his navy lingo for all the bingo numbers.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mrs Irene Davies (wife); June, Carol and Kay (daughters); Ken, John and Peter (sons-in-law); Byron and Katie, Louise and Chris, Luke, Jenny, Chris and Becky, Jonathon, James and Sarah-Janes (grandchildren); Mia, Ollie, Neeive, Alfie and Finley (great grandchildren); Hugh, Ina and Joan and partners Janet, Trevor and David (sinblings).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Huw George.

The bearers were Byron, Christopher, Jonathon, James, Chris and Luke.

Mr Roy John Milford Haven The death occurred on November 19th of Mr Roy John of Tollgate Court, Milford Haven, who passed away on Ward 10, Withybush Hospital. He was 80.

Originally from Herbrandston he started on the farm at Herbrandston Hall, then Gelliswick in 1955. Approximately eleven years later he became a groundsman then steward with the petroleum club before moving to the Waterloo Club, retiring in 1988.

His interests included cricket, playing for Herbrandston and Llangwm from the aged of 14 to 53, in many county games.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Violet John (wife); Ruth Briggs (daughter); Mel John and Gillian John (son and daughter-in-law); Shirley Laugharne and Colin Laugharne (daughter and son-in-law); Samantha and Heath Fairburn, Ian and Mikki Briggs, Andrew and Cassandra Briggs, Darren Briggs, Lisa and Steven Loughlin, Claire John, Matthew Roberts and Bieta Ocjepa, Jonathan and Gemma Laugharne (grandchildren and partners); Emma, Ben, Tom, Harry, Hayley, Bethany, Rachel, Alysha, Tomas, Jessica, Annabelle (great grandchildren); David (brother); Pamela, Pat, Sandra (sisters); John and Terry (brothers-in-law); Doreen (sister-in-law).

The service was held at St Marys Church, Herbrandston and was officiated by Rev Captain David Evans.

Mrs Judith Mary Wonnacott Milford Haven Mrs Judith Mary Wonnacott of Vicary Crescent, Milford Haven died on November 2nd at the age of 53 in Withybush Hospital.

She worked for many years at the Haven Fish Café and then in the Spar, Milford Haven, where she retired from due to ill health.

A sister to Robert Limbrick, her interests were her dogs Jack and Jake.

She was a wonderful mum to Ben and Katie, her life was for her children but she had suffered bad health in the last few years..

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are Ben (son); Katie (daughter); Sid and Marian Wonnacott (in-laws), plus aunty, uncles, cousins and friends.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn and the bearers were Woody, Aarun Clayton, John Rushnick and Tim Caddey.

Donations may be sent to the Intensive Care Unit, Withybush Hospital.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Ian Albert Williams (Jimmy) Pembroke There was a large attendance at the funeral of Jimmy Williams following his peaceful death at his home on September 22nd. He was 70 and lived in Devon Drive, Pembroke.

Jimmy was born in Anglesey whilst his father was stationed in RAF Valley. Twin to sister Pat and brother to Rhona, the family soon returned to Bufferland, Pembroke Dock were they grew up.

Married to Sally for 43 years, Jimmy loved his family, he was a proud family man and enjoyed spending time with his daughter Sandra and grandchildren Jessica and Lewis taking great pleasure from all they acheieved .

His working life began with an apprenticeship at Silcox Garage, he went on to work at the Pembroke Power station where he worked for many years. Following the closure of the power station Jimmy went on to work as a hospital porter in South Pembrokeshire Hospital.

Jimmy was a true character, known by many for his fun sense of humour . He loved his sport, in his younger days he played football for Pennar Robins and Cricket for Pembroke Dock. He was a popular member of Pembroke Dock Bowling club for over 25 years. He enjoyed his bowls and made many close friends through it.

The family left to mourn are Sally Williams (wife), Sandra Webb and Kevin Edden (daughter and partner), Jessica and Lewis Webb (grandchildren), Rhona and David Evans (sister and brother-in-law), Pat and Bob (twin sister and brother-in-law), Brendan, Deloris, Marion and Gerard OíSullivan (brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws), plus many nephews, nieces and cousins.

The funeral was held at St Patrickís Church, Pennar followed by internment at Llanion cemetery officiated by Canon Mike Butler.

The bearers were Kevin Edden, Dave Owen, Ken Edwards, Brian Dowling, Richard Jones and Tony Spicer.

There was family flowers only with donations made to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Withybush Hospital. The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son.
