Haverfordwest

Peter Denzil Edwards passed away peacefully on May 24th at Withybush Hospital he was in his 90th year.

Denzil, by which he was mostly known was very proud of his background and family. He was born into a farming family at New Inn, Rosebush, the family later moving to Linden Hall in Rosebush village, this area always had a special place in his heart. He was the last surviving member of the family of six children.

In 1961 Denzil moved to Haverfordwest and worked at RNAD Trecwn where he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for long service. Upon his retirement he was able to devote more time to his many varied interests and hobbies. In his earlier years he loved foreign travel and travelled far and wide. He was a keen and experienced gardener taking the greatest pride in his greenhouse and floral displays. When his health was better he enjoyed walking every day and was a well-known figure. Denzil was also a member of St David’s Church Prendergast. Reading and researching the family tree and the local history of Rosebush and Maenchlochog area was a great passion of his. His wealth of knowledge was respected and sought after by various people and organisations to contribute to books, TV and radio programmes.

His greatest love was writing poetry of which some had been published, a fact of which made him very proud. A favourite poignant poem, which he had written was read at his funeral service.

Denzils health had deteriorated tremendously in the last few years. He bore his illnesses with great dignity and never complained. He was always so appreciative of help and kindnesses shown towards him by family, friends, neighbours and carers over the last few years. He was a quiet and private person and a true gentleman. His passing is a great loss to his family, friends and neighbours who will always remember him with great love and affection.

The funeral service was held at St Davids Church, Prendergast on June 1st followed by internment at Prendergast Cemetery. The Rev. Nicolas Cale officiated assisted by Rev. Geoffrey Eynon, a relative of the deceased who carried out a reading in Welsh and also the eulogy.

The principle mourners are Lynette and Bob Fowler (niece and husband); Paulina and David Woolgrove (niece and husband); Branwen Edwards (niece); Shelley and Ian Wollacott (great niece and husband).

There were family flowers only with donations if desired to Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs Christina Hyde (known as Chris)

Milford Haven

The death occurred of Mrs Christine Hyde (known as Chris) of Conway Drive, Steynton, Milford Haven on May 7th at Withybush Hospital. He was 67.

Originally from Blyth, Northumberland, she worked in a soft drinks factory in Blyth until 1960 after leaving school. In 1964 she married Peter in Cambridge in 1964. From 1972 until 1986 she was a home help for Cambridgeshire County Council. Between 1986 and 2000 she worked with Peter when he started his own gas service business, as his accountant and secretary when they retired and moved to Milford Haven.

Her interests included exploring Pembrokeshire and the surrounding areas, gardening and bingo at the Royal British Legion Club, the catholic church bingo and the pill social club.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn were Peter Hyde (husband, who has since passed away); Dawn Cannon and Joanne Meyers (daughters); Shelley, Faye and Hayley Cannon (granddaughters); Damon (grandson) Jean, Agnes, Elsie, Margaret, Dorothy and June (sisters); Lynne (sister-in-law), plus other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

The service was held at St Cewydd and St Peters Church, Steynton and was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematoirum. It was officiated by Rev Derek Davies and the bearers were Michael Hyde and Alan Lawford (brothers-in-law) and Gerald Harteveld and Paul Russell (friends).

Donations in lieu of flowers are for The Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Ton Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr William George Prout

Stepaside

Mr William George Prout of Pleasant Valley, Stepaside passed away on May 29th at Withybush Hospital. He was 82.

He had lived in Sardis, Saundersfoot, PleasantValley and worked as a builder all his life, mostly with Badham and Johns Builders.

Before retirement he was working with Davies and son Plumbers, Saundersfoot.

He completed his national service and continued in the Territorial Army.

His interests included gardening and he showed vegetables at the local shows and was a member of Kilgetty Gardening Club and Pembroke Dock Chrysanthemum Society.

He played football for Kilgetty AFC and was later their chairman.

He was predeceased by Margaret Ellis.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Sandra Swarski and Sally Prout (daughters); Trevor Swarski (son-in-law); Claire and Richard Morgan (grandchildren); Joshua Morgan (great grandson); Mollie and Bert Lewis (sister and brother-in-law); Margaret Evans (sister); Kaye Evans (niece); Tom Ellis (brother-in-law); Brenda Prout (sister-in-law), plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Unable to attend were Joshua Morgan (great grandson); Brenda Prout (sister-in-law); Tracey Patel (niece in USA) and Susan Milroy (niece in Jersey).

The service was held at Sardis Congregational Chapel and was officiated by Rev Hywel Brown.

The bearers were David Griffiths, Norman James, Bobby Bevan and Barry Lewis.

Donations in lieu of flowers for Cancer Research (local branch) may be sent to E C Thomas and Son, Funeral Directors, Archways Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs Pamela Joyce Raymond

Narberth

The death occurred on May 9th of Mrs Pamela Joyce Raymond, of Cold Blow, Narberth. She passed away at Withybush Hospital at the age of 60.

As a native of Narberth she completed her nursing training in Llanelli Hospital, then went on to become a senior doctors receptionist in Narberth Health Centre.

Her interests included her family, socialising and holiday abroad.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Trevor Raymond (husband); Amanda and Hugh Davies (daughter and son-in-law); Andrea Lindsey Raymond (son and daughter-in-law); Terses and Neil Jones (daughter and son-in-law); Joyce Cole (mother); Raymond and Angela Cole (brother and sister-in-law); Janet Griffiths (sister); Peter and Jackie Cole (brother and sister-in-law); Steven, Sam, Dylan, Elen, Kirsty, William and Jessica (grandchildren).

The service was held at St Andrews Church, Narberth followed by internment at Templeton Chapel and was officiated by Rev Peter Lewis.

The bearers were Malcolm Raymond, Michael Raymond, Daniel Griffiths and Austin Price.

Donations in lieu of flowers will be donated to Ward 10, Withybush Hospital and Narberth Health Centre c/o E C Thomas and Son, Funeral Directors, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr David John Hughes

Calgary, Canada(formerly of Milford Haven)

Mr David John Hughes peacefully on April 3rd surrounded by his loving family in Canada.

He was born and brought up in Milford Haven and was always proud of his Welsh heritage.

He is survived by his wife Jane, four daughters and their husbands Karen, Gail, Pauline and Joanna and grandchildren, Mark, Julie, Samantha and Brittany, along with numerous family and friends.

Mr Richard John Phillips (John)

Milford Haven

Mr Richard John Phillips (John) passed away at his home in Vaynor Road, Milford Haven on June 4th at the age of 56.

John was the son of the late Ivor and Ivy Phillips and lived in Nolton until the age of eight, attending Camrose South School, before moving to Hubberston, Milford Haven.

He had worked as a storeman at RNSD Llangenech and RNAW Milford Haven. Early in his working life and then he had various jobs in and around Milford Haven although he hadn’t worked for many years due to ill health.

John had many interests and hobbies. He possessed an amazing amount of general knowledge and loved all quizes regularly taking part in the Milford Haven Quiz League. He enjoyed snooker, darts and the odd flutter on the horses. He was an avid science fiction fan and also enjoyed heavy metal music.

He was one of life’s amiable, gentle people and he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Maureen and Ken Jenkins and Margaret and Graham Jones (sisters and brothers-in-law)); Janet and Mike Hopwood (niece and husband); Dr Christopher Jones and Dr Andrew Jones (nephews); Sarah and Sian Davies (great nieces); Robert Phillips (cousin) and numerous life-long friends especially Alwyn,Vincent, Kenny and Stephen, also Matthew, Daniel, Oliver, Amy and Toby (great nephews and nieces).

Unable to attend Dr Vicky Jones, Dr Wendy Jones, Mrs Maida Phillips (aunt).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Paul Davies. The bearers were Alwyn Phillips, Vincent Feneck, Kenny Lewis and Stephen Phillips.

The eulogy was given by Dr Andrew Jones (nephew).

There were family flowers only and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

Mrs Mary Ann Morgan (Nan)

Letterston

Nan Morgan of Spring Gardens passed away at Withybush Hospital on May 7th aged 87 years.

She was a loving wife of the late Gwyn Morgan, mother and grandmother.

She leaves to mourn Gwyneth (daughter); Shirley and David (daugher and son-in-law); Gareth and Penny (son and daughter-in-law); Perry (son); grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The bearers were Michael Richards, Christopher Gale, Kenny Morgan and Stuart Morgan (grandsons).

The funeral took place at the Chapel of Rest, Fishguard and was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon, followed by interment at Letterston Cemetery.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for Coronary Care, Withybush Hospital.

The funeral arrangements and donations were arranged by Paul Jenkins and Sons Funeral Directors.
