Book celebrates history of show

With the 2009 County Show forming a important landmark in the history of the event, every effort has been made by organisers to plan something special.

Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society was formed 225 years ago in 1784 and the first ever County Show was held in 1805.

Those involved in the show today have taken a trip down memory lane to commemorate the show’s 50th year at its permanent home in Withybush, Haverfordwest.

“I did write to request a royal visit and applied for royal patronage but it hasn’t happened,” said Mr Crossman.

“So what we are going to do is print a book on the 50 years here [at the showground].”

The book is written by former Western Telegraph reporter Derek Rees with help from other show officials from years gone by.

“We will also be doing a display in the members’ dining area of old and new aerial photographs and a picture display of the lineage of presidents,” Mr Crossman added.
