While the rain held off for Ladies Day celebrations, a warm pavilion filled with perfume and harp song provided a welcome haven for guests escaping the blustery outdoors on Wednesday morning.
Music was provided by local harpist Georgina Evans (nee Cornock), originally from Fishguard, adding an air of elegance to an already very sophisticated occasion.
In her speech, the President’s wife Jean Lewis declared that her guests looked ‘radiant’ and thanked the women for their attendance and support during the show.
“Traditionally, it has been the men who have run the show but I do think that women are taking a more prominent role now,” she said.
The Ladies Day reception at the County Show, now in its fifth year, was originally the brainchild of Jean Rees and began the year of the first female show president.
Mrs Lewis proposed a toast to the future of Ladies Day and thanked past president John Lewis for sponsoring the strawberry and champagne reception.
“The show’s been so wonderful and everyone’s so supportive,” she said later.
“Around 500 people turned up to the opening service on Sunday so that was a wonderful start. Attendance at the show is certainly up on last year and there’s a lovely atmosphere.”
