A DAIRY farmer from Pembrokeshire is the new president of NFU Cymru.

Stephen James, who farms in partnership with his wife, Joyce and son, Daniel, on a 500 acre farm with 300 dairy cows in Bethesda, was elected un-opposed to the role, having spent two years as deputy to retiring president Ed Bailey.

Stephen is a former NFU Cymru county chairman for Pembrokeshire and is the union’s bovine TB spokesman. He paid tribute to Mr Bailey’s work during his four years in the top job.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to work with you as your deputy president and I wish you the very best for the future,” said Stephen.

Working alongside Stephen for the next two years will be the new deputy president John Davies, a beef and sheep farmer from Merthyr Cynog, near Brecon

Outgoing president, Ed Bailey, wished both Stephen and John every success in tackling the challenges ahead and thanked both NFU Cymru members and staff for all their help during his four-year term as president.
