FARMING Connect has arranged a series of one-to-one, confidential business review sessions to encourage Welsh farmers to measure business performance, review their business strategies and consider new ways of strengthening farm viability.

The hour-long, fully funded sessions will be open to all farmers registered with Farming Connect, with one taking place in Pembrokeshire.

According to Eirwen Wiliams, director of rural programmes with Menter a Busnes, which delivers Farming Connect on behalf of the Welsh Government, feedback from farmers who have attended similar sessions in the past has been very positive, with most saying that the guidance helped them to be more objective and prioritise areas of the business which needed improving.

"It is very important that farmers take time to consider the implications of CAP reform and a possible decrease in payments for farm businesses sooner rather than later.

"Attendees will be encouraged to provide their basic farm facts in advance, so that the advice they receive is tailored to their specific requirements.

"Topics could range from the Welsh Government's new Basic Payment Scheme, Glastir scheme requirements and stocking rates to bank loans, benchmarking, off-farm income and diversification," said Mrs Williams.

After the session, each farmer will be sent a report outlining key action points and recommendations.

The Pembrokeshire event will be held in Clynderwen on December 9th.

Appointments, available in hour-long slots between 9am and 5pm, will be allocated on a first come, first served basis with booking in advance essential.
