A RECORD 450 guests, friends and rugby supporters packed into a marquee at Crymych Rugby Club to celebrate at a testimonial dinner for local Welsh international rugby hero John Davies.
A fashion show the previous evening attracted 250 guests while a rugby match on the Saturday attracted 250 to the pre-match hospitality and a further 300 supporters who turned up to see Crymych RFC take on a John Davies Invitation XV.
All the money raised will be donated to John's nominated charities – the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, the John Hartson Testicular Cancer Charity, Crymych First Responder and Wales Arthritis Care.
John played more than 600 matches of first class rugby for Neath, Richmond and Llanelli and collected 34 Wales international caps. And all this while continuing to run his farm at Boncath.
He returned to Crymych to play out his long career and helped them win substantial honours in the process.
