HELD on a brilliant day at Ffynnondofn farms’ Parc yr Ynys, a superb 22 acre site near the north Pembrokeshire coast with panoramic views over the Preseli hills, Newport and the bay area, Nevern Show continues to grow in size and popularity each year.

Widely promoted as “the small show with a big heart” Nevern is much more than a village show and has always been a true favourite with locals and visitors for many generations.

A great family day out, organised and run by locals for locals, established many years ago, on a riverside meadow in the village, the space available for the developing event became very restrictive and a move had to be made.

Over recent years the show has grown immensely with a new date –a week later than previously (for this year and next at least) and with an enthusiastic new general secretary, Jeff Merrigan, quickly finding his feet.

From 330 entries in the horse and pony section best was given to the beautiful Shire brood mare from Elfed and Louise Davies, the 10 year old bay Bodafon Rose Marie shown with her magnificent March born filly foal, Rhiannah.

Heading the Hunter section was the seven year old liver chestnut, Sylen Lucky Lord, owned and ridden by April Drake, champion Working Hunter was the eight year old dark bay, Lawbreaker, owned by Robert Harper and ridden by Jessica John and the winning Show Hunter Pony was Lyndel Ladymax, a four year old bay owned by Debbie Cole and ridden by Millie Davies.

Alun, Anwen and Meurig Thomas had a remarkable day with beef cattle entries from their 28 strong polled Hereford herd winning the breed and taking supreme with Premier 1 Dowager 209, their in calf heifer, and reserve with the second calver Premier 1 Savannah 222.

Topping the dairy section was a Holstein second calver, Troedrhiw Taran Matilda, owned by Morris and Nona Davies and presented in the show ring by their daughter, Awen, who also won the young handler prize.

Andrew Thomas headed the sheep lines with a two year old Texel ewe and best in the dog show ring went to Ffion Thomas with her German three year old Weinaraner.
