WELSH fresh produce brand Blas y Tir are celebrating after securing a deal with The Co-op to supply Blas y Tir potatoes in stores throughout Wales, meaning you can now get hold of quality Welsh produce no matter where you live.

Pembrokeshire-based Blas y Tir, meaning ‘taste of the land’, have been building supply of their wide range of Welsh produce in retailers since 2011.

Keeping true to their Welsh roots, the company is grower-owned business, meaning that their farmers get a fair deal whilst providing some of the best Welsh produce around.

From traditional Welsh leeks and daffodils through to award-winning potatoes such as their Estima bakers and PGI (Protected Geographical Indicator) Pembrokeshire Earlies, the brand prides itself on providing high-quality Welsh produce for the loyal Welsh consumer.

“We’re so pleased to be launching in Co-op food stores in Wales as it means we are extending the reach of Blas y Tir, which is really important for our customers” explains Huw Thomas from Blas y Tir.

The roll out will see 100 of the community retailer’s food stores throughout Wales stocking Blas y Tir potatoes, increasing the reach of Welsh produce throughout Wales. It is hoped that rural areas of Wales who have not yet had the ability to buy Blas y Tir on a regular basis will have access to a wider range of Welsh produce in their local supermarkets.”

Simon Dryell, Ranging Manager for The Co-op in Wales, added: “The Co-op is committed to offering more locally sourced Welsh produce. We are delighted to be working closely with Blas y Tir, together we can respond to increasing consumer demand for fresh, quality, Welsh produce sold conveniently.”

Huw Thomas, Managing Director, explains “We are excited to be working with the Co-op to provide them with fresh produce grown, picked and packed in Wales. With our TV advert for Pembrokeshire Earlies currently on screens throughout Wales, it is important that all customers have access to this iconic Welsh potato”. If you missed the Blas y Tir Pembrokeshire Earlies advert, featuring the voice of BBC Radio Six presenter Cerys Matthews, you can catch it again on www.blasytir.com.

Both Blas y Tir Baking potatoes and Blas y Tir Pembrokeshire Early potatoes, which won European Commission Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI) status in 2013, will be stocked in Co-op stores throughout Wales.
