THERE was Royal Welsh success for a local family as their home-bred Ayrshire cows took a top prize at this year's show.

Phillip and Stuart Williams, the father and son team from Willhome Ayrshires, in Leweston, Camrose, demonstrated not only their fine handling skills, but also their quality home breeding, winning the interbreed dairy pairs with Willhome Gold Moppit 2 and Willhome Modem Caroline.

Moppit and Caroline are two home-bred cows who both stared for the Williams' at the show.

Moppit was crowned Ayrshire champion, whilst Caroline was given an honorary mention by the judge, in a tough competition in record temperatures on the Tuesday of the show.

Moppit was then unlucky not to be placed in the interbreed dairy championship, but together with Caroline, the pair were awarded interbreed dairy champions to the delight of Phil and Stuart.

However the pair couldn't rest there, as they were then involved in the interbreed group of five, with the three other Ayrshire's from other breeders, and were awarded reserve champion in the interbreed group of five class.

Stuart Williams, who farms at home with his parents whilst also running a livestock supplies company, Red Ribbon, said: “Winning the Fitzhugh Pair at the Royal Welsh Show is a highlight for any dairy exhibitor, but with two homebred cows from the same herd means so much more.

“We work with both cows 365 days a year, and it’s a fantastic feeling winning the prestigious accolade.”
