THE first ever Purely Pedigree show and sale for dairy cattle by auctioneers JJ Morris certainly lived up to its name at Whitland Mart and provided an excellent entry full of pure pedigree quality.

Judged by Eileen Stafford of Clarbeston Holsteins, the Champion and Reserve Champion went to Richard Lewis, Fronun, who presented five top class heifers, which also took first prize from the Group of Three class.

Champion Heifer was Roundhillsfarm Twist Veronica and Reserve Champion was another Roundhillsfarm heifer, Roundhillsfarm Yen Peggy and joining them to make up the winning Group of Three was Halen Shottle Tammy 60. The judge really had her work cut out to get down to the top two but the dairy character and power of the Roundhillsfarm heifers carried the day over many other very sweet and correct heifers.

The sale followed on and the judge backed up her selections in the sale ring by purchasing both champion and reserve animals at £1,800. She also purchased the third heifer from the group class. The three heifers averaged £1,693.

Other top prices of the day were for Tregibby Temptation Roxy, one of the twin heifers, bred from 11 successive generations of VG and Excellent dams, presented by Tregibby Holsteins.

She really was a super heifer that had 12th generation VG/Excellent written all over. A good buy at £1680, she joined the Paxtonview Herd of DEM & A Davies. Also at £1680 was another Richard Lewis heifer, Trefere Classic Dorothy. The Clynderwen herd presented a consignment of six quality heifers and their best prices were £1,550 and £1,500 for Clynderwen Razor Hoppy and Clynderwen Samoa Dolly respectively.

Twenty-two heifers were sold in all with an excellent top price in the recent dairy climate of £1,800 on two occasions and a very impressive average of £1,480. A superb start for the Purely Pedigree brand.

A very competitive trade pleasing the vendors and the superb quality satisfying all that managed to purchase. The next sale will be on Saturday, December 10, and all November calving vendors need to get in touch with entries.
