the chief veterinary officer for Wales, Christianne Glossop, will be guest speaker as Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru county branch kicks off its centenary year with its annual county conference on Thursday, January 26.

The event at Nantyffin Hotel, Llandissilio, commence at 7.30pm. Christianne Glossop will address the meeting and speak on three key issues; Welsh Government’s refreshed TB eradication programme, the current avian influenza situation in Wales and priorities for the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group.

Dr Glossop was appointed the first chief veterinary officer for Wales in June 2005. Working within the Welsh Government she is director responsible for animal health and welfare policy and strategy.

Her top priorities are to work with all interested parties to raise standards of animal health and welfare, ensure a state of preparedness for any incursion of exotic notifiable disease and to drive forward the TB eradication programme in Wales.

Jeff Evans, Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru county chairman said: “2017 is the centenary year of the Pembrokeshire county branch and we’re pleased to be beginning the year with a high profile speaker at this year’s annual conference.

"We are most grateful to Christianne Glossop for agreeing to come and speak at the conference and we look forward to hearing further details on the refreshed bovine TB eradication strategy. We would also like to thank HSBC Bank for sponsoring the event. I hope we will get a good turnout of local NFU Cymru members. Please also encourage your friends and neighbours to come along.”
