Tim Simons, from Cox Lake Farm Ltd near Narbeth, has been named as the southern region winner in the Dairy Feed Efficiency category of this year’s ForFarmers Excellence in Farming Awards.

Tim, who milks 185 Friesian/Jersey cross cows, is a British Grassland Society mentor, relishing the challenge of helping others to realise the potential in farming’s most fundamental of resources and achieving a more profitable and sustainable business.

ForFarmers account manager, James Wilyman, who put Cox Lake Farm Ltd forward for the award explained why they deserved this recognition: “The farm’s system has been based on grazing platforms since 1999, and they are continually looking to improve the efficiency of this system and the subsequent utilisation of grazed grass. Fields are constantly being measured for grass growth and forward budgeting of grass is undertaken to ensure that there is sufficient grass ahead of the cows at all times to allow them to perform at the best levels. I am delighted that they have been recognised in this way.”

Tim received his award at a ceremony at the Farmers’ Club in London on November 22.
