The Evans family, who farm at Parc-Cynog, near Pendine, have won the southern region award in the Forage Manager of the Year category of this year’s ForFarmers Excellence in Farming Awards.

The family milk 750 British Friesian cows on 1,200 acres, on a grass-based system and are continually striving to improve forage quality.

ForFarmers forage specialist Michelle Cross for Parc-Cynog, explained why they deserved this recognition: “The farm is a great example of how a paddock system can work on a large-scale, with the right infrastructure and team in place.

"Each herdsperson is responsible for their group of cows and paddocks and the farm undertakes benchmarking activities with other local farms to keep an eye on how they are doing compared to other similar businesses.”

The Evans’ received their award at a ceremony at the Farmers’ Club in London.
