For the first time, the Pembrokeshire Cheese Company range of premium cheddars has secured listings outside Wales.
Multiple retailer Morrisons is stocking the cheddar — created at the Haverfordwest Creamery — in its west of England stores as well as Morrisons’ stores throughout the principality.
The listings success follows close collaboration between First Milk and Morrisons, with the cheese maker highlighting the increasing importance of the true provenance of Welsh cheeses in the marketplace.
Cheddar from The Pembrokeshire Cheese Company is made using 100% Welsh milk collected from 300 farms within a 35 mile radius of the creamery.
Richard Hollingdale, First Milk’s sales and marketing director for its cheese division, is delighted with the success of the Welsh cheese.
“Since its launch less than a year ago, the Pembrokeshire Cheese Company has had a strong impact on the Welsh cheese market. Welsh shoppers are buying more Welsh origin cheddar more often, which is proof of the superb quality of cheese being produced in the country.
“Our research shows that Welsh consumers are proud to buy Welsh, so there is a huge opportunity for us to encourage even more Welsh shoppers to focus on the provenance of their cheese and buy Welsh, particularly the Pembrokeshire Cheese Company.”
The Pembrokeshire Cheese Company cheddars can be found in Tesco, Spar, Somerfield and ASDA stores throughout Wales. The Pembrokeshire Cheese Company is owned by First Milk, the UK’s largest dairy farmer co-operative.
