Free farm plastic waste collection for winners

Nigel and Sadie Taylor from Robeston Wathen, have been farming for 20 years and are fortunate to benefit from a 20 year farm plastic collection celebration.

Birch Farm Plastic Collection Ltd recently celebrated 20 years of collecting waste plastic from farms and provided a free prize draw at the Winter Fair for farmers to win a free collection of their farm waste.

Cheryl Birch said: “We are continually grateful to our customers – old and new — for recognising the fact that we strive to provide a reliable and efficient service and this was one way of giving something back for the support we receive from farmers.”

More than 500 farmers tried their luck at the draw so Nigel and Sadie were delighted to be successful and to have a small corner of the farm tidied up at no cost!

Cheryl Birch added: “We are fortunate to have a large number of regular customers throughout Pembrokeshire and are delighted that a farmer from this area won the prize.”

Birch Farm Plastics is a farming family business, with the second generation now at the helm. The business was established in 1989 by Peter and Marilyn Birch to collect waste farm plastic from a limited geographical area in Wales.

Processing 20 tonnes in their first year, the Birches have since expanded to collect more than 5,000 tonnes for recycling in 2008. The Birch Farm Plastics sorting site is near Swansea.

l Farmers in north Pembrokeshire can take their waste into one of Birch Farm Plastic’s collection sites at Newcastle Emlyn at a reduced charge. Anyone interested in doing so can contact Lindley of D. I. Evans Ltd on 01239 810878.
