People farming some of Pembrokeshire’s poorest land received a welcome boost last week.
More than £24million was paid out on St David’s Day to 97% of Tir Mynydd claimants.
Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones said: “I am pleased to confirm that such a high number of Tir Mynydd claimants received their payments. This demonstrates the commitment and dedication of staff in Rural Payments Wales to helping farmers in these difficult economic times.”
The Welsh Assembly received 10,655 valid applications under the 2010 Tir Mynydd scheme. It is available to farmers in designated less favoured areas.
The Tir Mynydd payment rates for 2010 are: £28.50 per hectare and £24 per hectare for farms up to 140 hectares in severely disadvantaged areas and disadvantaged areas respectively.
Farms of more than 140 and up to 640 hectares were allocated £18.52/ha and £15.60/ha. Farms of more than 640 hectares received £8.55/ha and £7.20/ha.
