Steve James, a dairy farmer from Pembrokeshire, has been elected vice president of NFU Cymru.

He joins Ed Bailey, a beef and sheep farmer from Merionethshire, who was elected as president.

Steve, who farms at Gelli Olau in Clynderwen, is a former NFU county chairman for Pembrokeshire.

After being elected he said: “I know I have a lot to learn about the position and hope I can do as good a job as the last presidential team did. I see it as a challenge but I am looking forward to it.”

Steve farms in partnership with his wife Joyce and his son Daniel. They have a 500 acre farm with 270 dairy cows. Daniel, aged 29, is married with two young children.

Steve is the union’s bovine TB spokesman.

The new president Ed Bailey paid tribute to the hard work of the retiring president, Dai Davies, a Carmarthenshire dairy farmer, during his four-years as the president of NFU Cymru.

Mr Bailey, who farms land in Snowdonia overlooking Cardigan Bay, said: “It has been a privilege and a honour to work with you as your vice president and I wish you the very best for the future.”
