Racing sheep adorned with colourful hand-knitted jockeys helped South Pembs YFC secure one of its biggest-ever donations to charity.
The sheep racing event at Windsor Farm, Lamphey, drew a capacity crowd of nearly 500 punters.
Thanks to entry fees, sponsorship and enthusiastic wagers by the spectators, South Pembs YFC crossed the finishing line with a £6,000 donation to the Wales Air Ambulance.
This achievement was such that the club won the E.R. Phillips Award at the Pembrokeshire County Show for community and charity work.
Club chairman Rhys James was delighted with the huge support the event received.
“We had very generous sponsorship from businesses and individuals for which we are very grateful and we are hugely thankful to the Phillips family for hosting the event and helping us to make it such a success,’’ he said.
“A big thank-you must also go to members, leaders and parents for their help and support.”
The dolls, which doubled as jockeys on board the sheep, were knitted by Ros Williams, the club’s incoming president.
