The first exhibition of a young Pembrokeshire photographer will open at Pembroke Dock Library today, Friday, August 1st.

Twenty-year-old James Sutton has been enthusiastic about photography for about three years, and in the last year, he has reached such a level that people are clamouring after his beautifully shot and often intriguing prints.

James, from Haverfordwest, said: “I have lived in Pembrokeshire all of my life and have quite an attachment to the area. I compose various landscape images in and around the county.”

One image, called The Evocative Megalith, was taken at Pentre Ifan burial chamber near Newport. Torches were used to paint the stones, and this, James says, “causes them to glow with mysterious energy”.

“I like to distinguish my photographs from those of other artists and have used the painting with light technique on many compositions, with dramatic effect.”

“The results can be illustrious and even profound.”

With photography, James feels he has found the perfect way to capture and emphasise his growing fascination with the world around him.

Many of his images mix genres together and appeal to many different people.

James said: “The exhibition at Pembroke Dock library will be my first and will showcase many of my photographs printed professionally for maximum effect.”

He added: “Visitors to the exhibition will not be bombarded by Pembrokeshire sunset photographs or coastal compositions, as there will be a wide-range of different material on show.”

The exhibition, entitled Vision, runs until August 23rd. James will be holding further exhibitions around the county later in the year.
