Whitland undone in second half
4:00pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
Newbridge 26
Whitland 12
Whitland played really well in the first half at Newbridge as they held the homesters to seven points each but were unable to maintain momentum after the break and allowed their hosts to secure victory.
Newbridge have won seven out of eight matches so far in the league and sit in second spot.
They looked like promotion candidates as they took the early lead through winger Trevor Evans which Neil Burnett converted. But with flanker Luke Owens playing really well, plus Callum Tree and Raff Williams also making major contributions up front, The Borderers came back and claimed seven points of their own near the oranges when Owens’ support play earned him a try which Nico Setaro converted.
The Borderers continued to battle hard afterwards but it was Newbridge who took their chances to score a try by full back Ryan Lee alongside a try brace from replacement Dan Mock.
Neil Burnett landed two more conversions for Newbridge but all that The Borderers could muster as reward for a lot of effort was a late unconverted try by left wing Dafydd Williams.
Whitland: Lee Glanville, Will Davies, Mike Georgiou, Carwyn Phillips, Dafydd Williams, Nico Setaro, Andrew Jenkins (capt), Rhodri West, Marc Jones, Nathan Price, Raff Williams, Kieran White, Luke Owen, Llyr Griffiths, Callum Tree, Replacements: Carwyn Jones, Aled Rees, Dylan Richards, Gareth Lloyd.
