Goodwick United 2nds 2

Herbrandston 2

Scott Reid scored a late equaliser to salvage a point for Goodwick United 2nds against Herbrandston at Phoenix Park.

With Goodwick looking like they had clinched victory, up popped Scott Reid to slot home from close range and earn the visitors a point.

The hosts led one-nothing at the break, thanks to Niall Kinsella scoring from the penalty spot, after referee Paul Rooney had spotted Lewis Banks had been pushed in the back.

The visitors were cruelly denied a second just after the break, as Ryan Howells planted the ball into the net, but was adjudged offside, so his effort didn’t count.

It was a body blow for United as the visitors equalised minutes later through Marc Gelona.

Steffan Hayes came on as a substitute in the second half for United, and the 16- year-old caught the eye with an impressive display in the heart of midfield.

Ten minutes from full time the home outfit regained the lead as Ryan Howells finished clinically from inside the box.

But the visitors never gave in and were rewarded when Reid struck a late equaliser to earn his team a draw when all looked lost.

United manager Peter Bowen said: “We have done enough to win this one, but I would have taken this result if you would have asked me before the game.”
