Haverfordwest County 4

Merthyr 0

A fantastic second half display earned Haverfordwest County a thoroughly deserved four-goal victory over Merthyr at home on Sunday.

This excellent result over third placed Merthyr, pushed the young Bluebirds to fifth in the table, with their second win of the campaign from seven outings.

Bluebirds’ manager Steve Batty was full of praise afterwards by saying: “We have not played for a few weeks and we were a bit rusty. But the lads played superbly in the second half and they got their just rewards.”

The home outfit broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half time when Liam Davies found the back of the net from six yards with a wicked left footed strike, he was teed-up by unselfish Liam Fawcett.

After the interval it was all one-way traffic as the Batty’s side controlled every facet of play. Ten minutes after half time and they extended their lead as Greg Walters showed good composure in front of goal to round the keeper and tuck the ball home, following good work by Ryan Mansell, Martin Carroll and Ben Steele who helped set-up the goal scoring opportunity.

Liam Davies added his second goal of the game on 63 minutes, latching onto a long clearance and stealing the ball off the keeper and striking a shot that crept over the goal line. Ben Steele scored a fourth goal on the 90-minute mark, the striker was put through by Walters, and coolly slotted past advancing keeper to complete the scoring.
