Narberth based rally driver Julian Reynolds has been presented with one of the biggest awards in his motor sport career after winning the 2012 MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

Reynolds, 44, and his Aberystwyth based codriver Patrick Walsh, won the biggest title in historic rallying after a perfect campaign in their Ford Escort Mk1 in the 0championship for cars built before 1982.

The historic championship is one of the most competitive in British motor sport and Reynolds had to fend off some tough rivals on his way to the title.

In a championship season that took them from the forests of Mid Wales to the lanes of Northern Ireland, they took a perfect score with seven wins from seven rallies. To mark their achievement, Reynolds and Walsh were in London this month to be part of the MSA Night of Champions at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. On hand to present their trophies was former F1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hours winner David Brabham.

Reynolds bought his first rally car when he was still only 16-years old. In his younger years he competed against future World Rally Champion Richard Burns and has since competed extensively, notably in the British Rally Championship.

“Historic rallying is so competitive and it’s really good to be involved in it,”

said Reynolds.

“Being competitive is the buzz. I really wanted to try and win the British title and it all worked out. We had a fantastic season.”

This year, Julian plans to continue rallying but will contest only a limited programme of events due to business commitments.
