Joe Allen’s first goal for Liverpool proved a bitter-sweet strike as his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One side Oldham Athletic on Sunday.

With his side trailing 3-1 with ten minutes left, Allen’s volley from outside the area flew into the net via a deflection.

But despite late pressure, The Reds were unable to get an equaliser, and the home side set-up a home tie with Everton in round five.

"Everyone in the dressing room is completely devastated,” said the 22- year-old.

"It's the worst feeling in football.

“To concede three goals in the manner we did was bitterly disappointing. We wanted to do well in the FA Cup but now we're out.”

Allen also denied suggestions his side had taken Oldham lightly.

"I don't think we underestimated them.

“But, no disrespect to Oldham, when you've been knocked out by a team in League One then something has definitely gone wrong somewhere.

“It hurts and I feel sorry for the fans.”
