Otters win derby

Narberth U12s 10

Tenby U12s 0

Narberth under-12s  morale was high as they started this match fresh from a prestigious and hard-fought 19-12 win against fancied Swansea side Dunvant.

But local rivals Tenby were keen to make a few points of their own and the young Otters had to dig deep once more to come away with this win.

It was a great occasion with the sides being given the run of the first team pitch under floodlights but slippery conditions made handling difficult.

Narberth weathered the early Tenby storm with Kaleb Higgon, Jordan James and new man Leon Whalley among those at the heart of the fray. It was a great steal by James which offered them their first try-scoring opportunity as he set Ifan Rees off on a length-ofthe- field dash.

A great try-saving tackle ended the move but Narberth kept up the pressure and Whalley was finally able to pick up from the breakdown to score.

Whalley, also a talented gymnast, celebrated his arrival on the team’s scoresheet with a spectacular back-flip.

In the second half Tenby continued to try to build through their strong running forwards but deteriorating weather made handling even more tricky.

Narberth did finally pull off a classic backs move to add a second try. This time the ever energetic Harri Harries made the break with Rhys Kemble crossing the line.
