Hakin United 1-1 Tenby

A HEADER from Jordan Richards gave Tenby a deserved point against league champions Hakin United at The Obs.

With half time approaching, Richards headed in a Billy Vaughan corner to cancel out Steve Mathias’ superb strike for the home side.

But in truth, the Seasiders were left to rue missing a host of chances in the opening stages as the Vikings looked vulnerable at the back with skipper Ewan Findlay and Steve Allen unavailable.

Richards had a great chance to put Tenby ahead 12 minutes in when he latched onto a Daryl Mansbridge pass, and after his shot was half blocked by Hakin keeper James Manson, Leigh Broome cleared off the line.

Striker Richards then saw his volley brilliantly tipped over by Manson following a goalmouth scramble before Hakin had their first chance, James Stanmore firing across the face of goal from a tight angle.

At the other end Richards had another chance when he shot over before Scott Ferney missed a guilt edged opportunity , side footing wide from eight yards out.

And after the same player narrowly failed to capatalise after robbing keeper Manson of possession, Tenby were made to pay as the Vikings took the lead.

Mathias picked up the ball 25 yards out and curled a superb strike over Dan Roberts in the Tenby goal and into the net via the post.

But on the stroke of half time Josh Bevan appeared to volley wide for the visitors, but referee Kevin Bowen adjudged the shot to have taken a deflection and from the resultant corner, Richards found space inside the six yard box to head home.

After the break Fawcett made a timely interception for the home side when Vaughan was poised to shoot, before Vaughan went close again when his free kick was pushed wide by Manson.

The Vikings had their most threatening spell in the final quarter, with Adam Davies twice driving into the box before shooting wide. Mathias also went close but was off target from the edge of the area.

Vaughan had another chance when he chipped agonisingly over and at the other end, Broome headed a Mathias corner over at the back post.

But in the dying moments it was the visitors who nearly claimed all three points when substitute Sam Christopher poked the ball wide from close range.

Moments later Bowen blew the final whistle and both sides were forced to settle for a point.
