Whitland pay the penalty

Division one west: Whitland 5-15 Glynneath
WHITLAND were always in contention against league leaders Glynneath but conceded penalties at key times which were punished by centre Jack O’Reilly.
O’Reilly was on target twice in the opening half as he pushed his team into a 6-0 lead, with home outside half Jonathan Thomas missing an attempt for the Borderes.
But Whitland piled on the pressure after the break and showed that they could play good rugby as they set up a period of pressure from which livewire flanker Jack Mason powered over for an unconverted try.
But Thomas was just wide with the conversion before full back Scott Newton missed a three pointer.
And there was to be no happy ending for the home side as they had winger Fraser Watson and replacement scrum half Andrew Jenkins yellow-carded for technical offences, and had to endure a heavy penalty count against them which left them a little bemused.
From three of these penalties O’Reilly was on target, including one from the very last play of the game, to give Glynneath their fourth win on the trot.
