LAST Saturday, over 50 players took part in the annual match for the Gourock Shield between the Docks team and the Town team. The Docks team was captained by the vice captain of the club Gwyn Scale with club captain John Price in charge of the Town team.
This annual match has been played since 1958 when Gourock Ropework Company presented the shield to the club for a match between all the Dock club members and the club members representing the Town team. When the membership reduced for various reasons it was decided to invite all club members who were associated with the waterways which included the refineries to play. The match is always played at the end of the golf season.
After some very close matches with only Donald Forrest and Gerald Slate winning their match by five and three; with Mike Beavis and Steve Roberts having the biggest win of the day by seven and six; the final result was a win for the Town team by eight matches to five.
Presentation was carried out by John Price captain of Town team and Gwyn Scale captain of Docks team.
THE 2013/2014 winter league will commence this Saturday, when after all the players have returned to the club house an auction will take place and will be carried out by Peter Harries.
The entry cost for the winter league will be ยฃ3per week which will be split for the weekly twos competition; weekly prize draw fund and the winter league day out.

After the match the ladies enjoyed a meal in Greens Restaurant with the food being prepared by Barry and his staff; the presentation was carried out by Ladies Captain Karen Pullen who received the Shield from Pat Evans from the losing captain.

THE seniors played a stableford competition last Thursday where 34 took part.
This competition was also a qualifier for points for the Colin Reynolds Salvers. On a lovely day for golf even after the very heavy rain over the previous week the course was in remarkable condition as buggies were allowed on the course and with the greens improving after all the work which had been carried out over the last few weeks which helped with the excellent scores coming in. The winner was Dick Wooding jnr with 41 points with the count going to the score on the last hole with Dick getting three points and runner-up Howard Webber scoring two points.
Colin Reynolds points in brackets
1, Dick Wooding jnr 41 points (6) winning on the best score on the last hole

4, Brian Keen 40 points (3) winning on the best back nine score

In the Colin Reynolds Salvers the only change at the top of the leader board is that the top three players did not play as they were all away on holidays which has given Dick Wooding jnr to make a late challenge for the Salvers as he has picked up 11 points in the last two weeks and moves into third place.
