Gents

LAST Saturday the gents section played the third round of the winter league and also a stableford competition for those not playing in the league.

On a windless day with excellent conditions for the third round; with the course in great condition for the time of year making scoring a little easier than previous rounds.

In the twos competition there were 17 twos returned each two was worth £3.50 in pro shop credit. John Price x 3 ( two twos for his hole in one) Liam Eva, Adam Bayjoo, Lyndon Brown, Shaun Dyson, RJ Roberts, Karl Rhead, John Skelhorn, John Nicholas, Gwyn French, Mike Anderson, Tony Davey, Ian McCarthy, Nathan Day.

In the Stableford individual stableford competition Gareth Bryant came in with an exceptional score of 45 points to win.

With 16 players taking part the twos kitty was shared by Frank Rimmer and Geoff Davies each will receive £8 in pro shop credit.

Presentation was carried out by captain John Price and vice-captain Gwyn Scale.

This Saturday will be the fourth round of the winter league will be played followed on Saturday 14 by a stableford turkey trot with the December monthly medal to be played on Saturday 21, which will be sponsored by Leigh and Tony Evans of the Harbourmaster, The Docks, Milford Haven. On the last Saturday of the year on December 28 a stableford whisky trot will be played.

Hole-in-one

CONGRATULATIONS to captain John Price who hit a hole-in-one on the 10th , a par three hole known as The Boundary on Saturday, November 30 in the winter league competition. This was John’s third hole in one; nice way to finish his captaincy year which ends New Year’s.

Congratulations also to Tony Davey who also struck a hole-in-one on Saturday, November 9 on the par three fourth hole known as The Valley in the second round of the winter league. This was also Tony’s third ace.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, ten ladies played in their weekly stableford competition on a dry day with the course in excellent condition, which reflected in better scores than the previous week, with Barbara Phillips winning with 32 points.

No twos were recorded which means a double up of the kitty for the ladies next competition.

The presentation was carried out by Liz Durward in the absence of the ladies captain Pat Evans.

The winter programme will continue with ladies tee time on Tuesdays at 10.15a m and a two tier roll-up on Sundays at 10am and noon.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, a large entry of 32 seniors played all vying to win a Christmas turkey. The competition was a non counting stableford which was won by Bert (the Bandit) Jones with 44 points; four shots better than his handicap. With the course in very good condition and with the greens very quick for the time of year; this resulted in very high scoring with many players coming in with 38 and 39 points

The kitty was shared by six players with seven twos between them. Bert Jones x2, Richard Setterfield, Dick Wooding (snr), Billy Hier, Geoff Davies, John Nicholas.

Presentation for the day’s competition was carried out by seniors’ vice-captain Martyn Price.

The next seniors’ competition will be held on today (Thursday) which will be a stableford turkey trot competition with the first draw at 10.30am. The seniors’ annual general meeting will be held after this competition.

On Thursday, December 12 a timed start stableford turkey trot competition will be played followed by the seniors’ presentation and Christmas dinner.

Junior

CONGRATULATIONS to Nigel Roberts who reached the top three in the 2013 Sports Pembrokeshire Awards Unsung Hero category. The presentation was held at Folly Farm last Friday. Unfortunately Nigel did not win the category, which was won by Micky Phillips, of Haverfordwest, and the other finalist was John Williams, of Fishguard.

Nigel was nominated by Matthew Rees who is the assistant professional at Haverfordwest Golf Club who was a former junior under Nigel’s wings at Milford Haven Golf Club. By the time he joined the senior ranks he had a handicap of four.

The last two weeks the juniors have played two stableford competitions and both have been won by Abe Forsythe.

Christmas Bingo

MEMBERS note that the first Christmas Bingo session will be held in the club lounge on today (Thursday). Eyes down at 8pm. The second session will be held on Thursday, December 19. Eyes down 8pm.

New Year’s Eve

TICKETS can be obtained from Barry at the club for New Year’s Eve celebration that will be held at the club and costs £15 and includes a buffet and music.
