WELL-known Merlins Bridge Amateur Boxing Club trainer Graham Brockway was ecstatic that his young schoolboys achieved a hat-trick of victories at the Mathry Boxing Show.

The highlight of the three victories was Alex O’Sullivan’s skilful display that deservedly earned him the ‘best boxer title’ on the night. More remarkably, it was only the 11-year-old’s second ever fight, and he certainly has excellent family boxing pedigree.

O’Sullivan outclassed Gorseinon’s Daniel Martin in the 34kg category, and in his corner was his proud dad, Wayne, a former Wales middleweight champion and Brockway. It was double pride for Brockway, who has coached both father and son, and says he is confident that: “Alex is a terrific prospect.”

Seasoned campaigner, Sion Lewis, 15, was featuring in his 25th amateur fight in the 52kg class, the former two-times Wales champion out pointed Gorsenion’s Corey Bates.

Completing a superb treble win on the night for the Bridge was Dylan Davies, 14, defeating Trostre’s Curtis Lee on points in the 50kg class.

Brockway’s assistant trainer Mark Jenkins was at the show and he was extremely proud at the way the Bridge trio boxed with so much confidence.

Anyone interested in taking up the noble art of boxing can go along to the gymnasium in Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, where training nights are every Monday and Wednesday, starting at 7.30pm.
