Goodwick United 2

Narberth 1

WAYNE O’Sullivan’s late header secured a superb victory for Goodwick United over current league leaders Narberth.

Considering the adverse weather that has struck the county the Phoenix Park Ground was in extremely good shape.

The deadlock was broken in the 41st minute; Rhys Dalling striking a fierce left foot shot that flew in off the post and gave the hosts the lead.

However, it was short-lived as the visitors squared matters within two minutes; Adi Jones found the bottom corner of James Gwilt’s net from inside the box as the score stood at one-all at half time.

The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead when Adi Jones’ wicked shot crashed against the bar. There was a contentious decision made by referee Alan Boswell as Justin Blewitt’s close range header inside the box was cleared as the visitors protested that the ball had crossed the line.

But with only three minutes remaining, the hosts struck a hammer blow as skipper O’Sullivan nodded home Darling’s floated free kick inside the box.

Goodwick boss Steve Black ford said: “This was a great victory. I was struggling for a bare 11, but today’s win was down to a real team effort.”

Narberth player manager Matthew Price said: We did not defend properly when they scored from a free kick directed in the box. You can’t wait for an offside decision as the boys stood still on their own 18 yard line. But I felt on the balance of play a draw would have been a fair result.”
