PROFESSIONAL welterweight boxer Dale Evans is currently training hard to try and set-up a possible shot at a British eliminator fight in May.

Evans, 22, who trains at Merlins Bridge ABC, Haverfordwest, three times a week under Graham Brockway, and also travels three times a week to spar with former world champion Gavin Rees, in Cardiff.

Last year’s Prizefighter finalist who works full-time requires the backing of a generous business or sponsor to help him with his expensive travelling costs in his quest to win a coveted British title in the future.

“For me to have any chance of winning an eliminator and go on to win the British title I have to spar with Gavin and his quality boxers in Cardiff,” said Dale.

“I work hard, train hard and fight hard. I’m determined and focused to reach my goal.”

The orthodox has had ten fights since turning professional in October 2011. His fight record currently reads eight wins, three knock-outs, one draw and one defeat.

His only loss was against Glenn Foot in the Prizefighter final in January last year, which was held at the Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, West Midlands.

Evans is not taking part in this year’s Prizefighter Welterweight Tournament, as he is solely concentrating on having a British eliminator fight against an unnamed opponent who will be ranked in the UK top ten. A possible favourite will be Frankie Gavin, of Birmingham, a southpaw who won gold at the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships. The current British welterweight champion is Kell Brook, of Sheffield, who is currently undefeated.

Earlier this month, at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Evans defeated former BBBofC British Light Middleweight challenger Erick Ochieng, prevailing 77-76 over eight hard fought rounds.
