THE winter league first round of the matchplay stages was played last Saturday along with a stableford competition for the non winter league players.

In the main matchplay knockout there were a few shock results; the biggest shock of the day was the reigning winter league champions Forrest and Conway losing to Daniel Flynn who played on his own as his playing partner Scott Findlay was unavailable, congratulations to Daniel who won the match on the first extra hole.

The top pair in the stableford competition played over seven weeks Dennison and Hull lost to club professional Matthew Hearne and club captain Gwyn Scale with Mark Summons and Tristan Carlston beating RJ Roberts and assistant pro Elliot Harding with an excellent win by Lyndon Brown and Shaun Dyson who gave Simon Holloway and Andrew Jones a shed full of shots. The top three pairs in the stableford competition were all knocked out in the first round of the matchplay.

In the plate knockout matchplay there were no shocks in the round.

The quarter finals of the winter league match are this Saturday, with the losers of the first round match playing in a stableford plate competition; with also a stableford competition for the players who had not taken part in the winter league.

The stableford competition on Saturday for non winter league players was contested by 13 players.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, 6 ladies took part in a stableford competition with three of them scoring the same points; after count back Jackie Skelhorn was declared winner.

No twos were recorded for the third week on the trot with big money up for grabs in the next ladies competition. This Sunday is the Jubilee Foursomes.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, the seniors were back on the course for the first time in three weeks when 17 members played in a stableford competition.

With most of the damaged trees removed the course was reasonably dry with the greens in excellent condition. The winner with 38 points was Gwyn Scale who has been playing well since he took over the captaincy with Tony Davey still in rich form and once again in the frame with 37 points.

Gwyn Scale and Brian Mitchell scored the only two. Presentation was carried out by seniors’ captain Martyn Price.

Seniors’ note that this week’s competition will be a stableford and will be played on Friday. The South West Pembs Golf Alliance to be played on Thursday at Milford, the following week the seniors’ competition will be back to normal when the stableford competition will be played on Thursday, March 6.

Juniors

CONGRATULATIONS to Harley Holmes who won the juniors February monthly medal with a nett 70. The medal competition was sponsored by Steve Arnold, of Port Engineering, The Docks, Milford Haven and was played last Saturday.

Junior Mini Golf

THE next competition for the junior ‘Birdies’ and ‘Eagles’ sections will be this Saturday. ‘Birdies’ from 1 -2.30pm and the ‘Eagles’ from 2.30 -4pm with further dates on March 15, 29th , and April 12.

The age group is from 5 to 16 years of age with the ‘Birdies’ for new or first time golfers; the sessions are tuitions and supervised by a PGA professional with equipment available if required; opportunity to try the Milford Golf Club mini golf course with the aim to progress to the ‘Birdies’ and play the Mini Golf Course.

The ‘Eagles’ are for players who have progressed from the 'Birdies’ group and will have a half an hour practice and tuition from the PGA Professional followed by 12 hole mini golf course tournament with the aim of progressing to the full course and the club’s junior section.

The ‘Eagles’ 12 holes result played on Saturday were1, Naomi Charnley; 2, Hollie Jenkins.

Saturday, July 26: Centenary Open Day Teams of Three - Best two scores on each hole to count - Any combination of players with no more than 1 junior per team. £15 members team, £24 non-members team.

Tuesday, August 5: Seniors open day - For the Devalca Shield. Max handicap 24. Prize Cat 55-64 and 65 over. Entry fee Section member £6, non section member £10, visitors £10. All including two’s and raffle.
