Merlins Bridge 5

Hundleton 2

MERLINS Bridge was too strong in every department for Hundleton to cope with, easily securing their ninth win of the season at the Racecourse.

Last week, Hundleton won for only the second time this season when they overcame St Ishmaels, but there was no repeat this week, as the visitors found themselves 4-1 down at half time, and at the final whistle they were convincingly beaten 5-2.

The Wizards will have an eye on next week’s tasty Senior Cup semi-final against close neighbours and holders Johnston.

This game was perfect preparation for their cup date on the Meadow next Thursday, March 20, with kick-off at 7pm – but before that the Wizards go to second placed Narberth this Saturday, in what should be a stiff league encounter at Jesse Road.

Stephen McNabney and Nathan Greene scored two goals each alongside a Simon Thomas strike. Bridge keeper Carl Woodhouse won’t be happy he leaked two goals – both credited to Hundleton’s Jason Donahoe.

Jamie Stanley’s Hundleton outfit uncomfortably sit second from bottom in the table, four points behind third from bottom Saundersfoot Sports, with just eight games until the end of their season.

Realistically it’s going to be a tough ask to stay in the top flight, but Hundleton manager Stanley said: “We will give it our best shot and we will see where that takes us.”

Hundleton entertain sixth placed West Dragons this Saturday, and this will be another tough ask to secure any points against a team that drew away with Hakin United and narrowly lost at Narberth in their last two matches.
