THE winter league semi finals of the matchplay stages was played last Saturday along with a stableford competition for the non winter league players and also the Stableford Plate competition for players knocked out in the previous match play matches.

In the semi finals of the main match play knock out competition; both matches went to the last hole with Daniel Flynn and his playing partner Scott Findlay reaching the finals by beating father and son combination Chris and Nathan Day; winning one up. In the second semi final Lyndon Brown and Shaun Dyson saw off the challenge of Simon Nicholas and Tony Potter also winning one up. The final should be a big challenge for Lyndon and Shaun who will be giving a shed full of shots to Daniel and Scott.

In the plate knockout matchplay Adam Bayjoo and Anthony Jobson beat Andrew Rees and Daniel Arnopp Rees and will play the father and son combination of Paul and Craig Eva who beat Wyn Lewis and Arron Byrne.

In the second round of the plate Stableford competition there were some more excellent sores returned with the top score of the day by Lea Nicholas and Ian McCarthy 47 points.

Three of the pairs who got knocked out of the quarter finals of the match play competitions joined the Plate competition and was given 44 points per pair which was the average points of the scores in the first round of the competition; last round of the competition.

The finals of the winter league match plays competitions will be played this coming Saturday, with the losers of the semi finals match play joining the stableford plate competition; with also a stableford competition for the players who had not taken part in the winter league.

This Saturday, the March monthly medal will be played which will be a qualifier for points for the Brian Bebb Shield. The monthly medal will be sponsored by Debbie Forrest of Happy Day Child Care.

On Saturday, March 29 will be the match between the Captains’s Team and the Vice captain’s Team for the Navy Shield, the list is on the notice board in the gent’s locker room for members to add their names - the draw for partners at 10.30 am in the Lounge bar with teeing of numerous tees at 11am.

Hollow Coring

THE chairman of greens Lyndon Brown is looking for members to volunteer to help to hollow core the greens and spread the sand on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 March. Any member can help on any of these days then contact Lyndon or put their names on the notice board.

Annual Knock out Cups

MEMBERS note that entries are now being taken for the Match Play; Llewellin; James Williams; Cleddau Insurance and the Peggy Darlington in the annual knock-out cups; entrance fee is £1 per person payable on entry (see notices on various notice boards throughout the club). Closing date will be on Sunday, April 13 with the draw taking place in the week commencing April 14.

Ladies

ON Sunday March 2, 12 ladies played for the Jubilee Foursomes in atrocious weather conditions with heavy rain and high winds for nearly all the round; the brave ladies stuck to the task of completing their rounds but was delighted to return to the club house. The winning pair consisting of ladies captain Pat Evans and the ladies immediate past Captain Karen Pullen will now go into the hat for their opponents in for the next round this is organised by West Wales Ladies Golfing Association.

On Tuesday, March 4, 12 ladies played in their weekly stableford competition with the weather much better than the previous tournament. Carrying from her win in the Sunday competition it was Karen Pullen who won the competition on the back nine score from Liz Durward.

Pearl Slate was the only twos winner that she holed on the 16th.

Good luck to Liz Durward and Barbara Phillips who will play a pair from St David’s City this week in the first round of Daily Mail Foursomes.

Seniors

AS a result of the weather forecast the senior’s competition for Thursday 6th March was called off.

This week’s the seniors’ competition will be a stableford competition and will be played on Thursday, March 20 with the first draw at 10.30am followed by a stableford competition on Tuesday, March 18 teeing off after the ladies competition.

The list is on the board for the seniors’ first home friendly match of the season on Tuesday April 15 at home to Trefloyne Golf Club teeing off at 11am.

On Tuesday, March 25 the seniors will play a stableford competition again teeing off after the ladies competition. On the Thursday 27 the seniors will travel to Haverfordwest Golf Club for their first away match of the season.

Juniors

CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas Wood who won the juniors first competition of the season the stableford Clawsafe Trophy with 42 points.

Last Saturday, the junior section played a stableford competition for the Gulf Oil Shield and it was won by Harley Holmes.

Junior coaching

JUNIOR coaching will recommence on Monday, April 6 from 5- 6pm under PGA coach Elliot Harding; juniors who would like to attend should contact him at the pro shop or phone 01646697762 ext 2. The cost for each session will be £3 per person.

Welsh Team Championship

THE draw for the first round of the Welsh Team Championship; have given Milford Haven Golf Club last year’s runners-up a draw against Cardigan Golf Club; the match is to be played by Monday, May 19 at Carmarthen Golf Club.
