Knock out Cups
THE closing date for the KO Cups has now passed and the draw will be made shortly for the first round of competition.
THERE was no competition over the weekend for the Ladies’ Section but on Tuesday, April 8th there was a change to the ladies regular Tuesday competition, when they played a friendly match with St. David’s ladies.
St Davids could only field six players, with the Milford ladies, a total of 18 played. The format was a Texas Scramble with teams of three and each team comprised two Milford Ladies and one St David’s lady to even out the numbers.
It was a very successful day and enjoyed by all the ladies. The winning team was Barbara Phillips, Liz Durward and Pat Garner who were presented with a bottle of wine each from the lady captain Pat Evans.
LAST Tuesday, the seniors played their weekly stableford competition which is normally played on a Thursday, but as the seniors was scheduled to play at St David’s City Golf Club on the Thursday the day was switched; this is done throughout the season when matches are played on Thursdays; the only difference is that the Tuesdays stableford roll up competitions do not qualify for Colin Reynolds points.
On a lovely day for golf with a slight breeze and the course improving day by day it was disappointing that only 17 players turned up for the roll up.
The winner of the competition was club captain Gwyn Scale who seems to have hit good form since his recent retirement; with 36 points.
1, Gwyn Scale 36 points
2, Richard Brock 35 points
3, Russell James 34 points
The only two was hit by Brian Mitchell who birdied the par three hole “Badgers” to take home all of the twos kitty.
Last Thursday, the seniors travelled to St David’s City Golf Club to play their annual friendly match; on a great day for golf on a course which was in good condition for the time of year especially the greens which were quick and true. The result was a half with three wins each; with the Milford pairs consisting of Russell James and Gwyn Scale; Brian Mitchell and Mike Ballentine and Mike Durward and Tony Davey winning their matches with seniors’ captain Martyn Price and Rolly Council; Dick Wooding (jnr) and Gerald Charles and Chris Harding and Brian Keen losing.
Senior members please note that the annual knockout cups draw was scheduled for Monday and under the news rule which was passed at the seniors’ annual general meeting in December that all matches are to be played by the date stated on the draw sheets any exceptions must be approved by the seniors’ competition sub-committee.
On Thursday 17 and Thursday 24 the seniors will be playing stableford competitions; both competitions will be qualifiers for points for the Colin Reynolds Salvers.
