Her first winner after injury and retirement wasn’t enough for Jodie Hughes this weekend, as she landed her first double since 2010 at the South Pembs Hunt meeting on Monday.

That special first winner back, came at the Llangeinor Hunt meeting just the two days before, onboard Julie Williams’ Tachbury, in the same colours as she had the horrific fall two years ago.

Two days on, she came to home turf, and rode a double - one for her father Graham Hughes and one for loyal owner Eric Clough.

The first came in the Hunt Members race, the first of the day, where not even a ten length advantage at the start for Charlotte Evans onboard Oldrik, could stop Hughes getting the pair in front approaching the last, in the end winning by four lengths.

Her second came in the Ladies Open onboard Pathian Prince, where four went to post but only three completed, as long time leader Teenage Kicks unseated his rider and the twelfth fence.

Local lad John Mathias came away with a treble - his most impressive winner been in the second race, the two mile four furlong maiden, where he and Dream Bolt (Dai Rees) made all from flag-fall. He was another to advantage from a generous lead at the start, but in the end it made no difference as he was an impressive winner, with Gale Force Lucy a distance behind. Myoran Oscar was Mathias’ second winner of the day, in the Open Maiden race, trainer/partner Amber Griffiths, with his third coming in the Mens Open Race onboard former Dai Rees inmate, Changing Lanes, once again for Amber Griffiths.

In the sixth and final race, the Intermediate Race, Griffiths send out two of the three runners, but neither could come out victorious, with David Brace OBE running his only runner of the day, Dbobe (Bradley Gibbs), coming past the post a tired winner. Brooklyn Heights, who was a thirty lengths behind the winner, and Canshetrain (John Mathias), two fences out, stormed down the hill by the driving Charlotte Evans, beating her boss by a neck. The last race of the day saw a disappointing two go to post, but Grianan Fidh under Rachel Leyshon came out on top, finishing along, with the other runner, Wiston Dreamer, taking a tumble at the eleventh fence.

The next West Wales meeting is only six days away, at the same track, so volunteers a plenty will be needed to get the track back into shape. First race is at 2pm.
