Gents

LAST Saturday was the April Monthly Medal sponsored by Brian Summons of BDS.

The field was reduced to 60 players as the bad weather came in and only 20 finished.

Congratulations to those that completed the course and particularly talented young golfer Liam Fawcett who returned an exceptional winning score of 69 nett in the most trying of conditions,

The best gross was Shaun Dyson with an excellent 76.

The current leaders in the Brian Bebb Order of Merit after Saturday's competition are:-

There was only one two recorded by Gareth Fawcett. Standard scratch was 73 and no handicap reductions.

The presentation was carried by Jason Arnold in the absence of sponsor Brian Summons.

Next week is the Tiger/Rabbit stableford competition which is a qualifier for the Welsh Team Handicap Competition. It is a pairs competition with a prize for best individual score.

The draw for the Knockout Cups has been made and members are encouraged to arrange for their first round matches.

Rabbits

MILFORD Haven Rabbits played an away game at Carmarthen with a disappointing result of 3 ½ to 2 ½ to the home team. Next match will be at home against Tenby on May 11.

Seniors

LAST Tuesday, Milford Seniors B team travelled to the Swansea area to play in the South Wales Seniors Classic Cup against Mond Valley Golf Club (formerly Inco) losing by three matches to none.The team consisted of Brian Mitchell and Mike Ballentine; Mike Durward and Tony Davey and Brian Keen and Bert Jones. The Milford B team will now join the Milford Ain the draw for the South Wales Seniors Classic Bowl, which is for all losing teams in the qualifying round of the cup.

Last Thursday, the seniors enjoyed sunshine when a big turnout of 38 players took part in the seniors weekly stableford competition, this competition was the third qualifier for points for Colin Reynolds Salvers.

The scoring was very close with the top four players all scoring 39 points with Tony Davey still playing excellent golf with his second win in a week after lifting the Steven Lewis Cup on the previous Saturday, he won the competition on the back six score.

After three competitions played for the Colin Reynolds Salvers with Tony Davey’s six points moves him into second with Andrew Smith and Roy John moving into the top five.

Course Standard scratch for the day was 39 points ; this meant that the top 12 players was all in their handicap buffer zone and no handicap were adjusted. The following players had their handicaps adjusted upwards after receiving point one back; Brian Keen 17 to 18, Steve Brown 20 to 21, Tony Goodridge 21 to 22, Bernard Hewitt 20 to 21, Dick Wooding (jnr)16 to 17.

Twos winners were Roy John, John Sanderson, Jim McGee, Les Sweeny and Andrew Smith.

Senior members note that the annual knockout cups draw has been drawn under the news rule which was passed at the seniors’ annual general meeting in December that all matches are to be played by the dates stated on the draw sheets any exceptions must be approved by the seniors’ competition sub- committee. The first round is to be played by May 31 and the second round to be played by June 30.

Senior fixtures

ON Sunday, a party of over 20 seniors will be travelling to the Forest of Dean on their annual tour; staying and playing at the Bells Hotel on 4, 5 and 6.

The next seniors’ stableford competition for Colin Reynolds points will be held on Thursday, May 8.

Tuesday, May 11 the seniors will be traveling Priskilly Forest for their annual friendly match.

Thursday, May 15 the seniors will be playing their weekly stableford competition.

Tuesday, May 20 the seniors will hold their weekly stableford competition.

Thursday, May 22 the seniors will entertain Glynn Abbey Golf Club seniors in their annual match.

Tuesday, May 27 the seniors will hold their weekly stableford competition.

Thursday, May 29 the senior section will entertain Glynn Abbey Golf Club.

Ladies

ON Tuesday, April 22, 11 ladies played despite the weather looking grey and damp. There were a few drops of rain but thankfully it did not turn into a heavy shower. The winner was Cheryl Eva with 33 points and the runner-up was Liz Durward with 32 points. No twos were recorded so the money will roll over into the kitty.

Last Sunday, 14 ladies played in the Dragon's Brooch/Challenge Bowls competition. Weather held off most of the day with slight showers. The winner was Diana Warlow with nett nett 75, runner up was Cheryl Eva with nett 78. Two ladies will go forward to play in the area final of the Challenge Bowls with Cheryl playing in the Silver Bowls and Diana playing in the Bronze Bowls.

Juniors

THE juniors with handicaps of 19 + played for the Haven Fuels Shield on Saturday. Congratulations to the winner Yestyn Howells. The mini golf was cancelled due to weather.

Neyland Golfing Society

THE Neyland Golfing Society invitation annual golf day will be held this year on Sunday, June 8 at Milford Haven Golf Club, invites will be distributed early in May with replies to be returned to the society secretary Brian Keen.

Rotary Charity Golf Tournament

MEMBERS and their guests are welcome to enter teams in the Rotary Club of Milford Haven Sponsored Charity Golf Tournament which will be held at the club on Monday, May 5.

The tournament is for ladies and gents and their guests and will be for teams of four in a stableford competition with the best three scores on each hole to count. Handicaps are maximum of 36 for ladies and 28 for gents. Teams can be all Ladies, all Gents or Mixed team.

200 Club

APRIL winners of the 200 club draw are; Steve Brown £50; C Fellows £30; M Millward £20.

Bingo night

A BINGO evening will be held at the clubhouse on May 29. Eyes down at 7.30pm.
