THE Veterans Putter was played at Haverfordwest Golf Club recently. Eighty three gents participated in this prestigious Stableford event, with 81 players returning a score.
A Glyn Miles scooped the entire prize pot with a two on the 6th hole. In third position Denzil Davies came in with 37 points. In second position John James with 38 points and secretary Richard Cross was overall winner with nine pars and a birdie finishing with 40 points.
In 36 hole double competition combining the Investiture & RH Noott Salver was battled out until the bitter end, and what a climax to a great event. The scores were tight over the two rounds. The Investiture took care of the best nett with Michael Atyeo totalling 141, coming in third. Runner-up Mark Owen managed 141 and with two fantastic rounds of nett 68 and 66 the worthy winner was Gelly James with 134. He struck 24 pars and a birdie in his 36 holes and his handicapped was reduced to 7.5.
Gelly’s two rounds were so impressive that he also finished third in the RH Noott Salver in the gross event. Yet again in second was Mark Owen with an impressive two rounds of gross 76 and75. Mark narrowly missed out by one shot to Jason Edwards whose five birdies during his 36 holes saw him rise to the top and claim victory in the RH Noott Salver with an outstanding two rounds totalling 150.
