Johnston (263 for 7) drew with Whitland Seconds (133 for 9)

THE final Whitland Seconds pair of George Harries and Shay Thomas left promotion chasing Johnston frustrated as they narrowly failed to pick up a 30 point win.

The tail-enders blocked out the final four overs after the visitors had struggled to respond to the home side’s massive total of 263-7.

Johnston actually got off to the worst possible start when David Dunfee bowled opener Daniel Sutton for a diamond duck, but No 3 Steve Mills joined John Summons at the crease, and the pair put on 126 before the latter went for 48 (eight fours).

Mills went on to make 72, hitting six fours and three maximums, before Ross Dewstowe and Steve’s brother Jack embarked on the second century stand of the innings.

They put on 101, with Mills making 63 (six fours and three sixes), while Dewstowe finished 51 not out (seven fours).

For the visitors, Matthew Webb took 4-27, and the expensive Dunfee 2-89.

Webb then top scored in Whitland’s reply, making 33 (one six and four fours), while Dan James (22), Connor Bowen (21) and Gethin Benjamin (20) all held up the home side’s quest for victory.

And despite the efforts of Kevin Roberts (4-20), Lee Summons (3-11), and Gary James (2-38), the leaders had to settle for a winning draw.
