TOMORROW (Wednesday) will see the start of a new rugby union Welsh Schools League for Pembrokeshire, involving 10 schools and colleges.

The schools and college will split into two leagues on merit so that games are competitive for players involved.

The initiative is part of a nationwide programme to increase school and club playing numbers in an age group where national drop-off has been a problem in the past.

The local A league will include last year’s national school’s finalists Ysgol Preseli with Sir Thomas Picton, Pembrokeshire College, Dyffryn Taff and Ysgol Greenhill.

The B league will be Tasker Milward, Milford Haven, Ysgol Dewi Sant, Pembroke and Ysgol Bro Gwaun.

Games will be on a home and away basis with the first fixtures scheduled for today.

Fixtures pre-October half-term are played on a fortnightly basis and then weekly from November to
February.

The league will also under pin the Under-18 Pembroke shire Schools Academy who play in the top WRU Wednesday competition which involves the best 300 players in Wales.

Fixtures are scheduled to be played on a Wednesday or Thursday after school with tomorrow's fixtures as follows: 

A League: Preseli v STP, Greenhill v Dyffryn Taff, Pembrokeshire College - bye.

B League:  Milford v Pembroke, Taskers v Ysgol Dewi Sant, Ysgol Bro Gwaun - bye.
